IT SHUTS DOWN AND STARTS OVER BEFORE THE SAFE MODE STARTS UP. THE CPU AND HAS BEEN CLEANED UP AND REINSTALED BECAUSE IT THOUGHT IT WAS GETTING HOT BUT THIS DID NOT ALTER A THING IT STILL DOING THE SAME. IS THERE SOMETHING THAT WOULD HEAT UP AFTER A 20-40 SECONDS BESIDES THE CPU AND MAKE IT SHUT DOWN AND START OVER??? I HAVE NOT INSTALLED ANYTHING EXCEPT THE SCREEN. THIS MIS A BUSINESS AND I KEEP EXTRA HARD DRIVES SET UP AND READY TO GO. THEY WORK IN OTHER P35'S BECAUSE I HAVE TRIED THEM. ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS. I HAVE NEVER RAN INTO THIS PROBLEM BEFORE.

Thanks for you help. I want to tell you what was wrong so you would know if you ran into this problem again. The laptop was not a S609. It was a S6292. The orginal CPU was not making good contact. I found a place near the hole that was not touching and decided it was worped. I tried replacing it with two other S609 CPU's and it did nothing at all. I then thought"wrong CPU" and tried a S6292 CPU and the laptop went right to work. Conclusion: Satellite P35 CPU's will not interchange! You must replace it with the same exact model CPU. Thanks again for your efforts.

Hi,

- First try to log in Safe Mode (one of the selections). Select "Last Known Good Configuration" option ( This option starts Windows by using the previous good configuration.)
.
- If you installed any new software or drivers, remove the software via Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel, or use the Roll Back Driver feature in the Device Manager (right click My Computer, click Properties, click the Hardware tab, and find the device, double click on its entry and open its Driver tab) to restore the old driver. If you discover that a driver is the cause of the problem, try downloading and installing the latest driver for the device from its manufacturer's site. If you installed any new hardware immediately before the problem occurred, obtain the latest driver file available for it in the same way. If the device still causes the problem with the latest driver installed, try a different make and model.

- Then restart your computer.

Hope this helps.

If not, waiting your comments. (And the error messages on the screen if comes after rebooting again)

    Hi again,

Normally laptops work higher temperatures than desktops. But if you run it on soft places for a long time, this may make trouble because of heat.

Laptop should be operated on hard flat surface. The soft surface limited the space at the bottom of the laptop hence reduces the thermal transfer. There are special designed devices with fans for laptops to work on.

Also try to reboot when it is cooled.

This article may be helpful for you my friend.

    Hope this helps.

If you set up extra hard drives, you may check its configuration. This may cause this problem.

It seems a corrupted file in windows or maybe a virus here by what you have explained. I would suggest you press F8 during booting time and opt for start windows in safe mode. Once done you can install or run an anti virus, anti spyware or even registry cleaner in order to fix this problem.Else you can load up a windows cd and let it repair the operating system.Hope this helps and if you have any question then ask and I will try to help you.

It seems a corrupted file in windows here. There are 2 ways to solve this, either you install a fresh copy of windows or else start windows in safe mode by pressing F8 during boot up. Then install and run a good registry software like ccleaner or registry mechanic. This should solve your problem.

if you want to avoid wasting time i would suggest a fresh installation of windows.

Can you install a different software and test. It could be that your windows files on the cd are corrupted. Download and install ubuntu 9.04 for desktop and test.If it works fine then use a different windows installation software.

Screen flickers

Does it flicker on an external screen? If it does you have a GPU issue, if not the screen/invertor is probably faulty.

Vertical lines on my screen

If after rebooting, they are still there, try an external screen. If the fault shows up on both, you have a GPU issue, if not you have a screen issue.

My laptop is having a grey vertical line.

That sounds like the screen is failing. You can check it by plugging your laptop into an external screen. If the problem is still there, the laptop has a fault, if it has gone, your screen is faulty.

Toshiba satellite p35-s609 screen darken.

It is almost certainly the LCD inverter which is the cause of your issue. It ism ore common for the inverter to develop a fault than a backlight bulb on the LCD (I used to work in a Toshiba repair centre).
Replacing the inverter should be simple, just make sure the unit is powered off with the battery removed so you don't get an electric shock.

Half of screen flickering

Yes, the probability is that either the circuitry that drives the screen, or the screen itself is on the verge of failing. It is also remotely possible that the backlight is failing. In either case, the likelihood is that a screen replacement is in order. Take it to a computer shop that specializes in Laptop repairs - or call Computer Geeks.

Not all PC are capable of running Vista at its full potential. This is not a Microsoft fault, but equipment manufaturers not supplying the drivers for older hardware. I recommend you to run the Vista Upgrade Advisor from the Microsoft website, to see if your laptop can run (that flavor of) Vista.

Toshiba p35-s609 laptop

Sounds like you have diagnosed your own problem to me. Its not the video card or you wouldn't be able to use the monitor, so it has to be a bad switch. If you can remove the bezel covering the switch you my be able to spray some contact cleaner into the switch and get it working again. Removal of most bezels starts with removing the screws on the back side of the lid hinges and lifting the bezell until it un-snaps from the housing.
Good luck. let us know how you make out.
