Question about Maytag Neptune MCE8000AY Electric Dryer

4 Answers

Maytag Neptune DC Model# MCE8000AYW leaks water from the right side of drying center unit while using the "Wrinkle Release Hanging Dry Only" feature. The leak happens during the steam portion of the cycle. The leak dries into a yellow crystalized powder or appears to look like yellow water if found when still wet (we had actually thought the dog urinated on the floor when first found!) I have only used water in this unit and could not find any mildew or rust to explain the yellow stain or crystalization. Repairman opened unit and found no rust inside and the front hose was fine. He could not determine which part should be replaced for me to contact Maytag to order. Product is out of warranty, but if anyone can tell me of a way to determine what is leaking and why, I want to repair unit.

I got the manual, need time to go over it.

The water pools, not condensates, so I am thinking it is a crack in the reservoir.

The manual will help with dismantling the unit to investigate.

I'll let you know what I find.

If I buy the menbrane the repair man says i bought it....if it doesn't fix the problem I'm out 350.00. Any suggestions.

Well nothing has solved the problem. It still is intermittent with the leaking. Last time it leaked was 4 months ago.

How can I use the steam cycle if I remove the water bottle?

I understand about the heating element. However, you cannot operate the top of the dryer center without the bottle filled to the minimum line. All it does is steam, so operating without steam is impossible.

So the only solution is to not use the drying center at all?

are you using distilled water it has to be in the steaming system some where the service manuel says that it can increase humidity in the area around the unit when using that cycle also have you looked under the dryer with a flashlight to make sure the water isn't coming from the back if you send me an email at ill send some tips

Stop using the water bottle because the water is overflowing the heater steamer pan and will short the heating element and the part is no longer avaliable and the top will stop drying.

You can not use the steam cycle but if you do keep using the water bottle the pan above the heating element will fail and take out the heating element and the part is no longer avaliable.

You can dry things in the top without steam. Just use the top as a dryer for sweaters and other things you do not want to tumble. Before ours failed we used it without water sometimes and it dries sweaters and dress clothes nicely. I wish we had known about this problem so we could still be using ours. As it is we have a 6 foot tall tumble dryer. I also hear the element for the bottom is not avaliable. Just some advice from our experience, good luck.

Hello & Welcome to FixYa
If you have already tried cleaning the vent then the problem is with the Thermal fuse. When the thermal fuse goes bad it cannot be reset and replacing it is recommended repair. It is located on the blower wheel housing inside the rear panel to the exhaust duct. You can test it for continuity before replacing, if that is fine the problem is either the door switch or the control board. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Neptune glass front takes 4 hours to dry clothes.

make sure the vent system is clean. any restrictions can cause the safety switches to activate and turn off heaters. When it cools, the switch resets and starts heating. Unit will continue to cycle the heat off and on. Make sure all elements are working.

on a timed dry cycle u are selecting the time it will dry
only after the time has run out will it tumble with no heat
on other setting the machine is stopping the heat and putting the machine into a cool down or air fluff mode

Maytag Neptune Drying Center MCE8000AYW

Email me a response to and I will be more than happy to provide you with parts breakdown illustrations and possible part numbers and locations to replace. The service amount verses the do-it yourself amount will be well worth the savings. Typical labor cost on appliances are 75.00 per hour and a mark up on the parts. If you feel you can do it yourself after getting the photos e-mailed to you, it will save you approx 200.00 if not a lil less or a lil more.

Please rate this solution "fix-ya" if it seems to satisfy your question.

Need to check drain pump and its hose connections. If its not from the drum seal then that's usually where the leaks occur.

Problem when drying gets to 1 minute mark

This is happening when you selected the wrinkle prevent option or you set it to wrinkle release cycle.what it does is it is tumbling with no heat to release the wrinkle in the clothing. This is normal. It could also be normal part of drying in "regular" cycle
