i have tried to find a volume control and a wireless button (like on my other laptop) and there isnt one .(if there is, then it is invisible or hidden mi5 style)

it appears that the volume control is on the keyboard . you press fn key then f3 and f4. and the same for the internet press fn then press f1 key or both together at same time none of which seem to work.

any more suggestions would still be appreciated

Somewhere on the laptop should be a button to switch wifi on and off. Most time near the volume controls...
Have you put that one on?

According to the packard bell website, the Fn+F1 combination switches the wireless. S

You are sure you have the latest driver from packard bell? Just to make sure... ;-)
Try to find your wireless card in the device manager under 'Network adapters'. If it is there, check properties if it is working correctly.
Then look in Control Panel > Network Connections to findif there is an icon for your wireless card... If it is, what is the status?
    Also you could go to:
    Start > Run
    Type "cmd" and press OK
You'll get a black command box.
type "ipconfig /all" without the quotation marks and press enter
Post the Ip-address and default-gateway if it is shown

Thank you, thank you!! I have just spent 3 hours trying to get the wireless turned back on. All working again now thanks to your note. Packard Bell wanted me to send my laptop in and were going to charge me £55.00 for the privilege, not impressed!!

Disable touchpad

Hi
look for a FN + some key (F3-F12) combination to turn the touch pad off, there can also be a button next to the power button to switch touchpad on and off.
You can also try to disable it using windows itself by right clicking the touchpad software (by the system clock )and in it's settings look for an option to deactivate the internal touchpad.
Hope this helps.

Do you need to manually turn wireless on on laptop?

Yes there is a switch for enabling and disabling wireless on laptops. For Packard Easynote L4 the wireless can be enabled by doing the following actions:
1.press the Fn key (which is in the bottom lefthand corner of the keypad) and press F1(function) key together (Fn + F1)
2. this should enable wireless on your computer.

Won't find wireless connection

Did you turn the wireless switch on? Normally there is a switch either on the sides or the front of the laptop that you have to turn on. Sometimes it is a button at the top of the keyboard.

Also once the wireless switch is turned on there are keystrokes that can toggle the wireless on or off. Normally you would Press and Hold the FN function key located at the lower left of the keyboard, then hit the correct F1 thru F12 key that toggles the wireless. The correct F1 thru F12 key to hit will have the wireless signal icon )))) on it. Or it might have the icon of a tower with the wireless signal icon )))). Normally the screen will display Wireless On or Wireless Off when you toggle the wireless.

I have seen some laptops where there has been a wireless symbol on a function key that doesn't seem to do anything. It might seem a silly question, but there isn't a physical switch somewhere along the front or side edges is there?
