Question about Compaq Presario Notebook
Had some remote computer service done by the GS and the next day neither my audio nor my function keys worked. One of the things that was done was to turn off a bunch of start up items so that my sys would load faster. Do you think something was turned off that I need for my function keys and if so, which one?
I saw this problem while scanning the net looking to solve the same problem on my partner's laptop. Her sound just quit working, worked yesterday, did not work this am after being turned off overnight.
The solution that worked for us was to try system restore back to when the sound worked, which was yesterday - that solved the problem.
I know this is waaay to far back for you to restore to, but maybe it will help others.

Go to start > Run
Type 'services.msc' without the quotation marks and press OK
In the window that opens, all services that are present are listed.
For each service is shown, if it is started and how it is started.
Look for 'Remote Procedure Call (RPC)' and check if it is started and startup type is automatic. Do the same for 'Windows Audio' and 'Plug and Play'.
Could be there is also a separate service for your sound card, but unless you give some more information about your laptop and sound card, i don't know if it is.
