Question about Samsung HLN4365W 43" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

HLN4365W Picture goes askew and turns to black and white.

Hi.
First of all, thanks everyone for the help and assistance offered on this site. It is really a great help. Issue with TV: Will turn on and the picture will come on. During the short time it will stay on the picture is great and bright with excellent color. After about 1-2 minutes it will skew as freeze as if you had taken a picture of an old black and white slide while it was being pulled out of a projector. From what I have read it sounds like this may be the color wheel stopping operation. When this happens it will stay like this with sound for some time and then will finally just shut off. I have not timed how long it will take to shut itself off, but my REAL worry is that once it has failed in this fashion, there is no longer any control from the control panel or via the remote. You have to actually power down the TV to get it to turn off and reset. Once this has been done, control is back to the buttons and remote until it freezes again. Is this also a symptom of the picture wheel failing?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have the same problem - thought it was a cooling issue so I added a fan, same problem. Was thinking maybe color wheel - but the picture freezes and goes monochrome (or negative like a photo negative) and the sound continues as it should. I am leaning towards it being the DMD board. Is it more cost effective to repair or replace the board?

Hi...what you are seeing is the DMD board (digital Mirror display board) going bad. And if you leave it turned on like that it will damage the DMD mirror and freeze that picture into the mirror. It will look as if someone etched it into the mirror. DMD boards can be repaired and some cannot be repaired. The DMD board can be replaced. The DMD mirror can also be replaced too.

Backlight turning off when the tv gets hot

Back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.

I have a 43 inch samsung DLP tv 2004 model# HLN4365W, I was getting a black and white picture, so i replaced the color wheel which was broken. It worked fine for a couple of days then there was no picture,...

No picture on a DLP when you can see the lamp is working is ALWAYS the DLP chip. BECAUSE you recently replaced the color wheel, i suspect that the LVDS/data cable to the light engine was not plugged in well and has come loose. I suggest checking and rechecking every cable and plug you can find.

Have picture in black & white no color. audio

Hi,it definetely sounds like the color wheel. The color wheel is a rotating disc that has a gamma of colors it spins at high rpms. The light of the lamp goes through it to create the colors on your tv.When it starts to go bad you will get color distortion ,black and white picture and sometimes you will hear humming noises.Found your color wheel here: http://www.discount-merchant.com/MITSUBISHI-00-L3603-002-p/1162430.htm Have a bless one!

PICTURE STOPS & DETERIORATES THEN GOES BLACK. WHEN I TURN SET OFF I GET A WHINING SOUND (FAN?) FOR 20 SEC. & THEN SET TURNS OFF

The sound comes from the color wheel and not a fan, common to samsung dlp tv's which can be the cause of the shut down.

I have a Vizio VX32L and when I turn it on the screen flashes and goes black. The power light comes on and the vizio sign lights up and turns white. But the screen flashes real fast and goes black again.

There are two places to look for the problems, the backlight inverter board and the power supply. Look at the power supply first since it is easier to get to, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc.

Hi, I have just purchased the Samsung LE37A559 tv. I have been trying to get the best colour settings brightness colour contrast tint backlight etc. Is there a optimum setting for all of these ? I am...

The problem is that everyone has a different "taste" when it comes to these settings. I like to turn the color all the way down to start with. You should (if the set is factory adjusted correctly) have a black and white picture. If it's not B&W, then there's something inside the set that needs adjusted and you should get a service call. Then I adjust brightness and contrast to get the best B&W picture. Then I turn the color up until I'm happy with the color level, then I adust tint.

Hope that helps

Picture loses color on samsung HLN4365W

if the picture is still visible but lacking color, it is not the lamp. check the color wheel and make sure it is working. replacing the color wheel is a pretty easy task and can be performed by yourself without many problems. as a sidenote, older samsung dlp tvs seem to experience this problem quite often, although they usually sound like someone strangling a cat before the bearings go out..

partstore.com should carry your replacement for 100 USD or so, the part number is BP96-00250A.

before replacing it, make sure your old one isn't just stuck or not spinning at full rpm, if this is the case, you can usually remove it and clean the motor using electronic or contact cleaner that is safe for plastics.

to check everything out, you will need to remove the back panel of your tv, then power it up (keep kids, small animals, hands and such away from the back while powered up), take a look in front of the projection lamp and see if the wheel is turning. if not, a very good writeup is available here, this is the writeup i send my own customers to if they feel like attempting the repair themselves.

replacing the color wheel is actually not very hard at all, if you have ever worked on your own desktop pc (installed a new drive or upgraded it yourself) then you should be able to do this with limited difficulty.

hope this helps,
trin
