Question about Washing Machines

No agitation - WTW6600SW2 Whirlpool Washer with oL Code. I took the Impeller(washplate), and both basket hubs off. The Drive shaft looks like it is rusted to the Basket, so the splinded hub components can't separate. How do I fix this? And which parts do I need to replace the problem? Thank you

When the washer gets to the "agitate clothes" part of the washing cycle the washer stops and flashes the overload code (oL) even when there are no clothes in the washer. The basket doesn't disengage from the two hubs. I think the drive shaft is rusted to the basket, so the basket can't move up and down away from the tub.

oL flashes when the machine/motor control detects a load size that exceeds the washer’s capacity OR basket can not disengage. This may signify: Load size exceeds washer capacity. Remove excess laundry, then restart cycle. Mechanical friction on drive mechanism, not allowing the basket to disengage. TECH SHEET Is this a Bravos or Oasis?

Screen say OL on my Kenmore Catalyst Elite. What does oL mean?

OL error means the Motor Controller has sensed an Overload.

The oL code means the motor control board is struggling to power the motor up. If it recurs after removing some clothes - usually this means a new motor control.... or worse - a new bearing.

If it were a problem with the tub floating up, the unit would spin instead of nutate.

Bearing failure in this machine is very common.

I suspect the drive shaft and bearing are the problem. The bearing and shaft are part of the outer tub.

Tub does not move during wash cycle;just keeps filling;timer jumps from 25 to 4:then drains;flashes OL(small loads)

First, OL/UL stands for "Overload", so in other words, the washer things the tub is too hard to move because it's overloaded and the motor is struggling or the unit is way out of balance causing the washer to struggle. The most common problem is a nut below the inner tub that needs to "float". Floating is when the tub fills up with water to a certain level the inner basket will rise about 1 inch from the center agitator. What this does is disengage the basket from the motor so that the agitator can rotate independently from the basket. If the basket does not float then when it tries to agitate the whole basket will turn back and forth at the same speed as the agitator and this will cause the OL/UL error code.

Washer stops and shows oL over load

The "oL" error code in the Cabrio and Bravo washers means the motor is sensing an overload ("oL") condition. While this could indicate a problem with the motor, it usually doesn't. Most of the time, you'll see this error code when one of two things is going on:

1) There's a piece of clothing stuck between the inner basket and outer tub.

2) The tub is not floating freely, usually because it's seized to the drive shaft by rust and crudus; FYI: this condition is almost always caused by using non-HE detergent in this washer. Also, be aware that, if this is the case, it can be very difficult to remove the basket from a badly corroded drive shaft, could even be a two-man job.

Here is a video to help you get into the machine.

"2007 Whirlpool Cabrio HE top loader with glass lid" sat for 3 months, now it does everything except agitate, and flashes

The OL error code indicates that the washer is overloaded. If the washer is not overloaded, this would indicate either a drag on the drive system or the control board is failing. Be sure nothing is on the floor under the washer that could be causing a problem. Raise the lid & manually spin the basket, it should spin freely. If not, you may have an item stuck between the spin basket and the washer tub. The image below shows how to remove the spin basket. If you unplug the washer and follow that procedure, you may find the cause of your problem.

Here is the document to help you.

I have a necklace chain stuck between the washplate and the basket, how do i remove the washplate?

Remove the fabric softener on top of agitator and plastic insert. Use socket wrench to remove hex bolt and lift top half and then bottom half of agitator which should then expose chain.

I have a Whirlpool Calypso and I have removed the washplate, lock nut using spanner wrench and u joint assy. I want to remove the metal inner basket so I can clean all the scum inside the outer wash...

Once you remove the agitator, then the nut with the spanner wrench, the basket should lift right out. It may need a little encouragement but it will lift out. I clean the out side tub with a putty knife to get the bulk of the scum off then use some cleaner like 409, or purple power to get the rest off. BE careful around the tub seal around the shaft, you don't want to damage it and have to replace it.

How to remove the washplate (agitator) to remove loose change .I have removed the plastic cap and removed one bolt but it still doesnt lift up, help

http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5137800&diagram_id=28247413#d28247413 The Impeller or agitator can be removed from the washing machine by pulling the top cap off of the impeller or agitator and removing the 7/16" bolt that is hidden underneath. This will allow you to examine and replace the agitator roller cams or lift the inner wash basket out to access the outer tub, tub sump, and lint filter for cleaning.

When in spin cycle the tub is loose and makes a banging noice.

if the basket has excess movement separate from the agitator or tub then the hub nut may be loose or maybe the tub rusted out and broke. you will need to pop the top of the agitator off and remove bolt holding it to shaft, pull agitator out and look at hub nut.

"OL" error message

I believe that I had this same problem. The machine was skipping the wash cycle. After the water level rose to where you would expect the machine to go into an agitation cycle to wash clothes; it would start a spin cycle and drain the water. In the process of spinning it would stop to display the OL message over and over again as quick as you redistribute the load.

I found the problem to be clothes that got stuck underneath the impeller (round thing at the bottom center of the basket). Somehow I also had clothes get pulled down and got stuck underneath the basket next to the lint filter, these items were shredded to the point that they probably were not causing any issues, none the less they should not have been in there. Even though it was not the problem, I went ahead and took out and cleaned the lint filter since it was within reach.

This machine works a bit different then other machines. The agitation cycle is dependent upon the basket floating up and disengaging from the drive shaft. I guess the clothes that got stuck beneath the impeller did not allow the basket to float high enough to disengage from the drive shaft. Because the basket was still engaged to the drive shaft the drive motor would spin the basket and start a drain cycle rather agitate the load to wash it. The imbalance of the basket caused by the clothes stuck underneath the impeller kicked of the OL error since the basket was spinning at an unacceptable angle. I am not a repair dude but based on my observation of what I did to fix the problem this explanation works for me.

I've attached some pages of a repair manual that I found on-line to illustrate the areas that I am referring to.
