Does the flash not pop up, or does it pop up but not flash?

  • kakima May 11, 2010

Just so we're on the same page. In the point&shoot modes the camera decides if flash is necessary. Can I assume the camera never pops up the flash in these modes even at night or in a dark room? In the PSAM modes the camera never pops up the flash, you have to do it by pressing the flash button. Can I assume in these modes the flash doesn't pop up when you press the button?

Having received no response in over a month, I assume this is no longer a problem.

Cobra MD210 flashgun on Nikon D90

Take care. Nikon does warn every user of the modern DSLR's not to use old flash guns. Old camera's were fitted with mechanical switches. In those days nobody cared about 5, 12 or even 100 volt on a flash gun. Modern camera's use electronic switches (transistor) and they only can survive when hooked up to modern flash guns, because these guns block high (above 5 Volt) voltages.

My nikon d90 doesn't works when i put the flash sb-600

Could you provide some details? How does it not work? Does the D90 not turn on? Does it take a picture but the flash doesn't go off? What exposure mode(s) are you using?

D90 dropped and caused a seal crack at front cover (cracked above lens mount). Build-in flash does not popup. It works well without flash. Do I have to replace the front cover? What should I do with...

The SB600 isn't made any more. I would recommend the SB700. Before you buy an external flash however, make sure that the hot shoe on you camera is still fully functional. An external flash is superior to the pop-up flash under almost any circumstances. Where your pop-up flash limits your shooting distance substantially, I have take pictures at night using an SB700 almost 100 feet from the subject and gotten correct exposure with my D90. Now there is one thing you will not be able to do without the pop-up flash, but I suspect it will never matter to you. You will not be able to use the pop-up flash to trigger the SB700 off camera.

I have a quantaray qtb-7500a for an older n80 nikon but i want to use it with my d90 it has a af module nk

The QTB 7500A will work with the D90. However, you will not be able to use the iTTL mode of the D90. Use it exactly the same way you've been using it with the N80, letting the flash control the exposure.

60ct4 for nikon d90 how to use

Hi Vilas,
All of those cables will not do. Your Nikon D90 has no PC Socket. Buy a NIKON AS-15 and then just hook Flash Sync Cable to AS-15.

The flash pops up but doesn't flash

The flash takes a while to charge up and you need to hold/press the ''click'' button little longer and when you release it , Flash will fire.

Compare the Nikon d80 to the new d90. Can I use all my manual focus lenses from my Nikon film cameras? Also, all my filters and flashes.

All old lenses will work on the D90 the same way they work on the D80. Filters depend on the lens -- they either fit or they don't -- the camera has nothing to do with that. I wouldn't use old flashes on new DSLRs.

There really is no difference between the D80 and the D90 as far as lenses and flashes are concerned.
