Question about Dell Latitude D800 Notebook

1 Answer

Have a dell latitude d800. Battery died so replaced with new one, ran fine for a few months, now it won't run from battery. Battery shows full charge from itself and from bios, so it is charging and the system is reading voltage form it. But when trying to run from battery only the power light comes on for just a second then goes out, seems like it is going to start but is maybe stuck getting power from jack and not switching to battery? If I start it from the power supply then disconnect the cable it dies right away. All BIOS settings, date/time etc are not lost.

Update bios-if same issue occurs-check for another known good battery (maybe a friend may have one) try this battery and if same issue is occuring then its your motherboard....now if a kown good battery is fine on the system or one is not available then we have to beleive there is a issue with the battery...alot of dell system's in which the battery gets replaced whith in the first year..chances are you will always have this issue with the system....the board is running at a high speed which is eventually killing the battery

SOURCE: bios password dell d800

Remove BIOS battery. Short BIOS jumper or leave the battery out for a long time(Over night, maybe) This should default the BIOS to having no pass word present.  If that doesn't work then evidently Dell has one within the BIOS . Just ask them.

The best way to unloc a BIOS password is to reset by removing the CMOS battery and while the mains is removed press the power button a few times and leave for about 30 seconds. Refit the battery and power up. Password should be removed.

Dell Latitude D800 Wont Power Up

Check the status of the battery directly from the battery. Turn the laptop over and on the batter is an battery indicator button and lights to tell you if it's charged. If it is charged then you have an problem internally. Wiggle the tip of the power cord at the laptop connection to see if it is loose, if it is then you have an loose connection on the motherboard which can be fixed by an experienced tech that can solder or the motherboard will need to be replaced.

IF THIS HELPS PLEASE VOTE.....GOOD LUCK AND THANKS..

Dell laptop battery has 3 lights flashing when hit battery tester

You can't get the modern batteries to come back to life. Time to get a new one.
A suggestion: When using a laptop battery, run it on battery and discharge it until it shows about 2 to 3% charge left at least once a month. Do not keep charging it without letting it run down periodically. Most important--do not run always plugged in to line current.

Cant run on battery it dies after 5 mins but battery power says i have 99 percent battery and the ac adapter only charges for 5 mins

The Cell on you battery might be dead. if its brand new you need to replace it, might still have warranty.

if not you have to buy a new one in order to run it in battery mode, how ever you can still use it without battery and plug directly at an outlet.

My Dell Latitude D610 Battery Stopped Working

The battery light flashing RED/AMber is an indication of a failed battery.

Portable batteries have a life expectancy of 300 to 500 recharge/discharge cycles. (roughly 18 months under normal use) After that, the charge life starts to drop off and eventually it will not hold a charge. Because of this, the battery is considered a consumable item and is only warranted for one year from the manufacturer.

Since all the systems listed in the post are D610's (4 to 5 years old) it is not surprising that the batteries are failing.

Dropped Puck, if you replace the battery and a new battery doesn't charge/run the system, then the charging circuit on the MB is failed.

Try removing the battery and plugging it into the wall. then turn it on, if it turns on your battery is bad or connected improperly.
