From what I could find, this machine has a one-step buttonhole feature.

I found these instructions for a Singer one-step that may be of help - http://www.singerco.com/resources/buttonhole.html

The method will depend on your make & model machine, although the vintage sewing machine buttonhole method will work on all zig-zag machines (just requires manually measuring and adjusting the stitch length & width during the process):

How do you do button holes

Firstly look in manual. Secondly, search online for manual. Thirdly, I seem to remember that you had to select the buttonhole function on the machine. If you haven't got one then you need to sew two parallel lines of stitching very close together, then overstitch at each before finally cutting between the parallel stitches.

Buttonhole attachment inplace ..all settings as directed.foot down..machine will not feed material and produce buttonhole

Are your feed dogs up or have they been accidently lowered? Are the feed dogs blocked with thread? Clean them out with a toothpick if so.

My automatic buttonhole stitch is not working on my elna sewing machine ,even when the lever is pulled down

you should a buttonhole button that must be pushed on the machine
either before you pull the buttonhole lever down or after to let the
sewing machine know what function to use, my sewing machine
won't let me make a buttonhole unless I push the buttonhole button
or yes, like you said the buttonhole foot could be damaged.

I have a 9960 singer machine and am trying to use the buttonhole presser foot for the first time and I can not get it to sew T

the buttonhole foot snaps on to the presser bar, there's a little lever at the back of the presser bar that releases the foot, then put the buttonhole foot down on the needle plate & use the presser foot lifter (number 11) to lower the presser bar down onto the buttonhole foot & you'll hear a click sound when it snaps on & make sure to use the buttonhole lever(number 31) because the machine won't sew a buttonhole unless that lever is pulled down.

Buttonhole pattern Wheh I select the buttonhole pattern that I would like I get an error. The machine sews on every stitch but the buttonhole pattern.

Are you using the buttonhole foot when you try? It will look like this.

Also, there is a lever you need to pull down to deploy when stitching buttonholes. It triggers the machine to stop stitching out the side of the buttonhole, reverses then does the other side. Its a little lever up in the head near the pressure foot bar and needle bar. It will touch the sticking out finger on the buttonhole foot to trigger the reverse motion in the programm.

Bernina Buttonhole foot #3A

Difficult to say whether your current foot can be repaired or even if a new foot is the answer. I believe the auto buttonhole needs to be calibrated to the machine, but not sure that is the issue with your machine.

You can sew a buttonhole without using a buttonhole foot--not really difficult as that's how it was done for many years before the manufacturers developed the specialty foot. (My machine came with a buttonhole foot but I still make mine the old-fashioned way because I determine how they will look rather than the machine making that choice for me.)

Practice a few times on scrap fabric and write down the stitch widths & lengths that work the best for you so you can replicate each stitch to look alike.

How do i use the automatic buttonhole on kenmore 19233??

Your machine should have a special buttonhole foot which has a place to insert a button, You will probably have to pull on opposite ends of the foot to open it. Place the button in the foot and then squeeze it together to make the button secure. Attach the foot to the machine. It should snap on.
looking at the left side of the machine you will see your needle bar at the front and the presser foot bar at the back. You should also see another lever which needs to be pulled down so that it rests in the buttonhole foot.Select buttonhole on your machine and it should sew. The button determines how long the buttonhole is.
