My Acer Aspire 5520G will not play a Blu Ray disk. It keeps telling me that I need a critical update to the Acer Archade DVD playing software. When I click on the update button it comes back with a message that there was aproblem with my internet connection. There cannot be a problem as I have full access to the internet. Gratefull for any help you can give me. Alan

How do i play a blu ray dvd. I have put the disc in but nothing happens.

Hi,

You need Cyberlink PowerDVD software to run a BlueRay Disk. Normally, in Acer computer you should have Cyberlink PowerDVD software, please open the software and follow the below mentioned steps

To update the Cyberlink PowerDVD software:

1. Connect to the Internet.
2. Open the Cyberlink Power DVD application.
3. Click the arrow in the upper left hand corner of the window next to Cyberlink PowerDVD.
4. Click on Update Now
5. Follow the prompts to install the update.

Note: The update process may have to be repeated more than once to ensure the latest version is loaded on the computer.
Reminder: Blu-ray protection software prevents Blu-ray movies from being displayed on both the notebook LCD and an external monitor at the same time.

Thanks and regards,
Jitha

Used once, played movie then next time it was looking for update. Even if your answer is no, it still wont play, just keeps on asking. Can I switch this off?

About 9 months ago I purchased an Acer Aspire. But until now I never used the blu-ray drive. When I first used it, the disc performed ok. But the very next time that I used it, it refused to play. A notice came up as below.
“A critical component of the player requires periodic updates. New movies could fail to play if the critical component is not updated promptly. Would you like to update now? [YES] or[ NO]”
Now, whenever either button is selected, the screen changes as though the disc is going to be played. But then up pops the notice again! This keeps on happening time after time! So I decided to update the program that runs movies etc.
In Acer Arcade Deluxe version [1.14 .6907] I did a live update. And then I tried a Blu-ray disc. The notice came up and I clicked on YES and Internet Explorer started up and was taken to the Cyberlink .com site. A notice came up with the link to update as needed. After the download I minimised Explorer and found the download ready to install. Eventually I tried the disc and it ran ok, with small skips all the way through the movie. I now probably need to look into the buffering of the disc. But at least it works now.
I hope this may be of use to others.
Brian Stallard.

I cannot play Blu Rays on my Acer (Vista) PC with

If the drive doesn't read any disc's you need to reinstall the drivers and verify you have the latest version. If the drive is ONLY having trouble with Blu-ray then i'm assuming it's the player that you're using; it may not have the right Codac's etc. Also, try multiple Blu-ray movies to verify it isn't just the one movie.

Acer Aspire 6930 won't play Blu Rays

Your DVD is not Blue Ray capable. You would need to purchase a Blue Ray DVD player for your laptop, just having the software does not allow you to read them.
