Manual steps to run Chkdsk at the command prompt loadTOCNode(3, 'moreinformation');

  1. Click Start, and then Run.
  2. In Open, type cmd, and then press ENTER.
  3. Use one of the following procedures:
    • To run Chkdsk in read-only mode, at the command prompt, type chkdsk, and then press ENTER.
    • To repair errors without scanning the volume for bad sectors, at the command prompt, type chkdsk volume:/f, and then press ENTER.

      Note If one or more of the files on the hard disk are open, you will receive the following message: Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. I try to load windows xp or 7 and as it starts to copy files i get the bsod. ive tried to reinstall over 5 times and while its loading it come up with the bsod

Have you done a disk scan of the hard drive? Did you set a partition and make it active? Have you tried letting the software partition and format the drive?

What error codes were provided with the BSOD?

STOP 0X0000008E(0XC0000006,0XF740DFEA,0XF6F0AA14,0X00000000)

The stop is actually a OS error code abbreviated "Stop 0x8E "
"KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED"
In reality it is a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death).
The most likely cause is caused by memory hardware failures and more rarely by device driver issues, viruses, or hardware failures other than your RAM.
Type the same as the quotation "Stop 0x8E" into Google - it will take you to the error code and give you the meaning.
It's not a computer processor error, at all, but a memory or driver error. Most likely a device which is trying to be used by the OS you are loading but can't load because the device needs a driver or the memory is loose (besides bad memory). Remove the memory and re-seat. Make sure not to touch the contacts with your hands. Take a pencil eraser and clean the contacts.
For a better answer, the next time give the OS version you attempting to load, and the hard drive you are using whether ATA or SATA. The more data the better. Now to test your memory --- download MEMTEST (find it on Google) it's FREE. And run Memtest on a Floppy disk or from a CD. Run the complete ALL tests, It will take many hours, but you can write down the errors (if any) and exchange your memory for new memory under the lifetime warranty that memory maker give. Good luck.

Windows 7 Ultimate, crashes periodically (blue screen),

Just one thought that's all! Is the motherboard compatible with Windows 7? If it's not you need to upgrade it, which is why many of us have not got Windows 7! IE: Me!
