Re: Panasonic plasma th42ph10uk power red light blink...
Manual says problem with SC, SS, or C boards. SC is large board at left when facing rear, SS is large board at right, and C is small long board at very top. You could check fuses on SC and SS. Also, SC and SS should make a buzzing noise(not too loud) if operating. If a fuse is blown, suspect that board is bad not just bad fuse. Search parts at encompassparts.

I unpluged mine and the light was still blinking when it was unpluged. I thought that was weird. So I pluged it back in and just heald the power button in untill the light went out. It went out within ten seconds. I pushed the power button again and the tv went on. WOOHOO!!! Just needed reset, I guess.
A blinking light on your TV means it is on face mode because one of your parts is shorted out and the TV is protecting the other parts. I don't have the service manual for this TV but on the older Panasonics 2 blinks poited to the D board. You can do a search online for a service manual for that TV therir are a few retailers selling it. The D board is also know and the Logic board which is located under the signal board. On This TV I belive the logic and signal boards are just one board. You can get parts for this TV at www.interliquidparts.com
The light blinking twice means there is a fault within the system and it is a code to tell Panasonic where roughly the fault lies. Go to Panasonic's web site and look for your set then input the fault code and hopefully they will tell you where the fault lies.
If you have the flashing red light of death you can use the chart below to see what the blinks indicate and call Panasonic and have the part replaced, at the bottom of this page is the meaning of terms.

are you using a PC to feed a signal or maybe a cable with an adapter? I had the same issue when I used one of the rear HDMI ports to show a PC display. Apparently there is a software difference between the rear and side/front ports. Inputting the PC through the side HDMI port has solved the problem for me (so far!)
I have the 52" version of the Viera model. Mine went out last night and started blinking twice over and over again. I suspected overheating so i just went to bed and tried it in the morning with no luck. Then I unplugged it for more than ten minutes and plugged it back in and everything worked fine. I hope this helps.
