The more amperage you have on the 12 volt rails the more power you can draw from the power supply. For an xbox 360 I don't see any reason why you would use a non-standard power supply unit there really is no gain using a computer PSU on an xbox 360 unless you broke your factory PSU and then you could rig a computer PSU to it but your better off not trying unless your really good at electronics.

Trips after one minute- green indication of power supply turns to red

That doesn't sound good.

You should check if the outlet have over 240V, in that case, you should NOT use that outlet. If not, it might be the power supply that doesn't have enough resistance (electricity blockage that stop the console from being "overpowered") , and you should might get a new power supply.

The power cords for the Xbox 360 and the Xbox 360 slim have different shaped plugs. If the plug you are using is not fitting it is likely that you have purchased the incorrect cord. If this is the case you will need to purchase a new cord.
When you purchase your new power cord make sure that it is designed for the original Xbox 360 NOT the Xbox 360 slim.

It will not turn on power supply light is red

Your power pack is the problem, turn it off and let it cool, clean out the vents and make sure it is well ventillated, then test again, if it is still red, you will need to buy a new power pack.
Make sure that you buy the correct one, look on the power pack to see if its a 203w or a 175w because the connection to the console is different.
Thumbs up if this helps.

Depends a great deal on the manufacture date. Look at the Power Port, each is slightly different

Early 360s are 203w.. Zenon boards these have a small square plastic brink in the center of the two rows or prongs

late 2007, came the first revisions, the opus/Falcon boards, these are 175w, and are easily seen by the thin plastic bar the is at the top of the rows of prongs

Then came the final revision, the Jasper. It suns on 150w These have two small bars over the rows of prongs, with a small gap between the two.

Now as the boxes were revised, they all will still work with the other powers sources, meaning a 2009 system will still work with a 203, 175, or 150, but the older versions wont with the lower wattage power bricks.

For a visual look to this article about the Jasper revisions.

Xbox 360 is turning on for less than a second

Got kind of bad news , It is the power supply ,but it's the power supply
in side the box itself. It's more than likely a shorted regulator specifically
one of the 12 volt liner reg chips , I had to swap a few out to resolve
this a few times.

Xbox 360 won't turn on

I had this problem. Make sure the pins in the USB ports (2 on the front and 1 on the back of the console) aren't bent and there's nothing obstructing them. I unbent some of the metal inside these ports, and voila! I have a working xbox.

Won't turn om

Check that the Power Brick that comes with the XBOX 360 has a yellow/orange light. If it is red, then you may be using the wrong voltage or the is a fault in your power supply.
If it is orange, check it is plugged into the back of your Xbox 360. If not, then plug it in at the bottom of the back of your Xbox 360.
If its plugged in and still doesn't turn on, then call Microsoft (US Number is 1-800-4MY-XBOX) and tell them the problem.
Thanks, Venturer
