Hello, The WEP Key is a "password" you set in order to protect your wireless connection. If you don´t know it you have to log in to the router. The defaul settings are:
Open a Web browser like Internet Explorer or Netscape
Enter http://192.168.1.1 in the Address field of the browser
enter admin in the User Name field and leave the Password field blank.
Click the Wireless Setup icon. You will see the SSID and the WEP Key.

If you can´t login to your router or you are not using the default settings you will need to reset the router. Resetting your gateway to the default settings not only changes your router user name and password to the default values, but it also deletes all your home network settings. This includes the SSID and network encryption key. After you reset your router to the default settings, your home network won't be accessible until you reconfigure your router and all your network devices to use the same SSID and encryption key.To reset your Actiontec GT704WG gateway to the default settings:

1. With the power on (Power LED on front panel should be lit green), use the pointed end of a paper clip to press and hold the Reset button for 30 seconds.

2. Release the Reset button. The Actiontec gateway should reboot itself.
3. Wait 15 seconds before resuming setup. Then follow the steps i wrote above.
Your Actiontec GT704WG gateway is now using the default settings for the network configuration. This includes the default SSID and WEP encryption key. Then what you have to do is reconfigure your wireless settings and write it down and put it on a safe place in case you forget.
I hope this helps.

Open a browser - clear the address bar - type in
192-168.1.1 - then in the password - forget the username unless u set it - in the password type in 'admin' - just admin that's it -
the go to security - - hunt around and you will see your wep numbers - there will be 4 of them most likely - pick one -

What is a wep key and how do i find it

A WEP key is a security code used on some Wi-Fi networks. WEP keys allow a group of devices on a local network (such as a home network) to exchange encoded messages with each other while hiding the contents of the messages from easy viewing by outsiders. WEP keys are chosen by a network administrator. WEP keys are set on Wi-Fi Routers and other wireless network devices. Matching WEP keys must be set on each device for them to communicate with each other.

We are trying to sign on to our home network but the WEP key, after entering, keeps saying settings are invalid. What exactly is the WEP key? What do we need to do?

Are you trying to connect to your internet connection for wireless? If it is, the WEP key is the password that you set up for your wireless device so that devices that can see the your wireless network will be able to connect by entering the right WEP key. If you didnt change the WEP key of your modem or router, then the default WEP key will be found at the back of your device, but if you had changed it before then, that's the WEP key that you need to enter.

I need wep key westell model 327w

Unfortunately, no one could not provide you any WEP key. WEP is a key that you set to your router so that no one could connect to your wireless network. As an owner of the network, you should know what your network key was.

If you forgot your WEP key, you need to reset the router to factory default, configure it and set a new WEP key.

That is the only way. Thank you!
