My window air conditioner is not cooling at all, even though the fan works and I hear the motor humming.

Here's a pretty simple test - take off the cover if possible, remove the air filter - I know some it's trickier on some and they have a filter that slides in from the side versus a hinged cover, etc. you can pull off or down - but there are metal fins behind that filter. Turn the A/C unit on and try and feel those fins. If they are getting cold and your fan is on - it should be drawing hot air in right there, cooling it down and cool air should come out of the vent. If you turn the A/C on and feel those fins - hear the humming - but they are not getting cold - you have a bigger issue. Basically, your compressor isn't sending refrigerant through the coils and there's nothing to cool the air down with. *Could be other components - but that's a pretty basic test just to check functionality. If it's getting cold - but you're not blowing cold air - those fins could just be clogged with dust, etc. You have to be careful cleaning those as they bend easily. They sell special cleaner for them (you'll want to use it outside - usually an acid based cleaner) and a device that looks like a comb to get in between the fins to straighten if they get bent. Word to the wise - those fins being straight and clean allow the air flow to come through unrestricted - definitely less is more on the cleaning side; you'll want to be very careful. Not staying cool

sounds like it is either low on Freon or the compressor is going out. The blowing ice cold is an indicator that it may be freezing up because the low Freon. when it stops blowing cold, turn it to fan only mode and see if it gets colder again. If that is the case then the unit is low on freon and freezing up. I know that sounds confusing but that is how AC works. The low freon pressure means the gas is expanding too fast and the air flow cannot take up the cold from the evaporator fast enough. Turning the compressor off and keeping the fan on will alow the room air to take up the cold.

Cooling fan will not turn on

The cooling fan is controlled by sensors in the cooling system so providing that you can move the fan blades easily and you have current getting to them I would be having a code reading to check for failing sensors. As to the a/c problem the compressor operation is controlled by 3 switches 1 switch is the heater fan must be on as well as the ac switch --2 is a switch that turns the compressor off if the head pressure is excessive and 3 is a low pressure switch that turns the compressor off if the pressure is too low (no gas). have a ac mechanic check out the system for leaks

Jump air compressor ac works replace relays same issue HONDA

the compressor may be low on freopn but, the fan problem is most likely the fan motor as it is the low temp fan and will run more often than both fans...to test see if you can switch the fan plugin to the other fan watch carefully that it does not get too hot as the second fan is a safety fan that works as high temp or when using the A\C

I have my dometic Rooftop ac unit. The heatstrip/fan run perfectly but when I turn on the ac...the fan runs good but when the compressor kicks on it just hums.

The compressor coming on does make a slight "humming" sound which is normal. Is the unit cooling properly? Do you think it is louder than before?

Please help our ac compressor wont come on

Hi, did you change, capacitor for compressor too. check compressor overload switch,(relay) normally located on compressor terminals, (where you connect wires to compressor) that's the device that goes klix when compressor goes to start, could be faulty, or maybe low voltage from your mains(house panel) check line voltage, with digital volt meter, some compressor won't start if voltage drops to low, yes fan will work, could also be, your compressor has a lock rotor, (hard start), you can buy a compressor hard start kit, from appliance store, and try to start compressor, or maybe compressor internal winding, are damage, especially now in summer, when you got a lots of voltage drops, check compressor winding, check compressor winding for short circuit, remove cover on compressor, remove 3 wires from compressor terminal, use ohm meter, put one tester lead on copper tubing that's connected to compressor, and next lead to compressor terminal, one by one, if you get beep (continuity) from anyone of those compressor terminal, you got a short- circuit in compressor, you will have to replace compressor, but if there's no short, them try hard- start kit, replace overload relay, you will see it at compressor terminal location, after you remove cover. good luck.

Air conditioning comp not turn on

if you used a pressure washer ,you could have caused a leak ,if there is no freon the low pressure switch wont let the compressor turn on,even if you didnt use high pressure, engine degreaser may remove corrosion on the line set or the condenser ,also causing a leak, the high or low pressure switches may still be wet, follow the line set ,fat line (low pressure switch with a plug w/2 wires)unplug it make sure its not still wet inside,do the same to the high pressure switch on the small line, check the fuses ,pull the ac relay make sure there is no water underneath, and the prongs are dry,if the blower fan in the vechile isnt working on 2,3,or 4 speed it wont let the ac turn on,if all that checks out ,turn the fan on high max ac unplug the green wires or wire on the compressor right behind the belt pulley, check for 12v dc,if none, you lost a relay or one of the pressure switches, fuse, maybe broken wire,if 12 v. is there, your clutch coil fried on the compressor pulley, good luck, hope you figure it out

No power for AC compressor

try removing the plug off the low pressure switch on the accumalator plug a paper clip into the plug and turn ac on if it comes on then your low pressure switch is bad or your low on refigerant.

Ac unit is humming fan is not turning

hi there,
defective fan motor, this means stuck up motor the running winding is functioning but it can't star to drive your motor so the current inside motor produce vibration that why it create humming, several causes to be consider, bearing are worn out, defective fan capacitor, the fan is obstructed by object.there is no supply on starting capacitor, check if there fan relay overload protection reset it on control panel,
also,if humming is came from compressor, definitely because
fan is to reject heat,if no fan compressor will hum due to refrigferant in the system is not flowing,on high side, have this check by a/c technician nearewst on you.have a nice day dont fforget to rate me ,thank's
