when i switch on my dsc-s700 model it blinks format error on the screen
Problem for Sony Cybershot S650 Digital Camera
Power won't stay on
My daughters S650 will turn on only for a second then shuts off...the cybershot word appears on the screen and then turns off. We have re charge dbatteries, put new batteries. No solution

From what I see at Sony, there are 2 models of the Cybershot S650
DSCS650 or VGNFS650F
Please confirm which type it is.
Sony has a great website.

Once you choose the model, click on it and go to the next page
on the right you can live chat with a Sony Rep, this might be your best bet on this problem. It sound mechanical to me or it is set to turn off at a particular point. This camera is designed to turn it self off about 3-4 minutes if not in use. This is the Auto-Power off function. Page 11 of the Manual. Link below

I can imagine you can reset this in the Setup (looks like a little tool box) not sure though.

camera needs to be reset...but not gonna be easy
take batteries out...hold down power switch for 15 seconds...then put batteries in and restart
if camera works...go straight to menu and reintialize all functions
this is a firmware/software problem that is not easily fixed...and Sony wants $91 to fix a $100 camera
keep repeating this until it works...may take numerous attempts...but this is how I got my camera running again
