Question about Brother IntelliFAX 2800 Laser Fax

1 Answer

Brother sx4000 typing normal mode

Cannot type letters. When I type any letter, only symbols ie; : etc. will type. I have hit the "code" " Reset" and it still won't let me type in 'regular' mode. Need an answer ASAP please.

This is the first time I've used it. We had gotten it to work not knowing how, then I turned it off, turned it back on to use it again and it was back to typing symbols again. I walked away from it came back to it and it started typing normally . ??? If this happens again when we 1st turn it on, do I press the CODE and RESET buttons? I did that many times and tried to type but no luck. We don't need to use it very often and no Manual available.

Make sure the ribbon and correction tape are not out. Take out and reinstall the daisy wheel. Does the typewriter reset normally when you power it off and on?

Hmmm well i was not able to ascertain the reason you are only seeing symbols but I can help with the manual:

I bought an sx4000 typewriter on line and there was no manual. I wish to activate the 16 character display so I could track my typing....help

To toggle the Line by Line mode, press Alt + Operate (written above the key, on the key is Reloc and BS 1/2). There are three options that you can rotate through Off, Auto, and L/L. (Auto only displays the text for correcting for specific things - like a line that will be centered between the margins.)

Brother has the manual for this at their site: http://www.brother-usa.com/manuals/default.aspx?PGID=10&R3ModelID=SX4000 . The direct link to the manual is http://www.brother-usa.com/ModelDocuments/Consumer/Users%20Manual/UM_SX4000_EN_219.PDF .

I hope this helps.

I have a brother 4100 fax. how do I change the information on the fax transmission page? thank you

If your date and time are not set yet, press Menu, then 1, then 2 and enter the date and time, pressing Set after each entry. Enter time in 24-hour format so it will display AM or PM properly.

For other info at the top of your fax transmission page after date and time, such as your fax and phone numbers, and company name:
Press Menu, then 1, then 3 for Station ID info.
First put in your fax number and press Set.
Next put in your phone number and press Set.
Next press the buttons for your company name and press Set.
Press Stop/Exit to return to the date and time display.

Here is info on inputting text, from the manual:
Entering Text
When you are setting certain functions, such as the Station ID, you may need to type text into the machine. Most keys on the dial pad have three or four letters rinted above them. The keys for 0, # and don’t have printed letters because they are used for special characters.
By pressing the appropriate number key repeatedly you can access the character you want.
Inserting Spaces
If you want to enter a blank space, press once between numbers and twice between characters.
Making Corrections
If you entered a letter incorrectly and want to change it, press to move the cursor after the last correct letter. Then press Clear; all letters above and to the right of the cursor will be deleted. Re-enter the correct characters. Also, you can back up and type over incorrect letters.
Repeating Letters
If you need to enter a character that is assigned to the same key as the previous character, press to move the cursor to the right.
Special Characters and Symbols
Key - once - twice - three times - four times - five times

When typing, a letter is hit but a number is being printed. Typewriter is a Brother CE-500 model. We think you need to use the "Code"function but the manual has been missing for some time

Turn typewriter off, hold down CODE, turn machine back on.

Make sure you are not set for PROPORTIONAL SPACING.

Remove print wheel, turn machine off, reinstall print wheel, turn back on.

I have a Brother WP-2000 word processor and when I changed the Daisy Wheel the letter typed is not printed and another letter or symbol is printed. How do I align the daisy wheel so this does not happen

Turn the typewriter off, remove the daisy wheel.

USUALLY there is a small rectangular slot in the daisy wheel that points up.

Insert wheel and turn on.

Make sure your spacing is NOT set to PROPORTIOAL SPACING

We have an Image Class MB6500 Series, purchased 10/07 In order to change paper sizes from letter to legal or visa versa, there are 9 steps, which seems to be a hugh design flaw. We are seriously...

Actually 4 settings - menu - paper size shows enter set - cassette shows enter set - adjust for ltr or legal enter set - hit stop. You do not have to change type, etc.. Hope it helps...

Speed dials

I'm not sure if this will help because I haven't seen a 2060 control panel but most Canon fax machines use the same process. Press either "menu" or "data registration" button. (Again -I'm not sure of 2060 control panel.) Display should read "user settings" Press the "down arrow" (looks like an upside down triangle) until the display reads "tel settings" Press "set" Display reads Speed Dials Press "set" Display should give the # of the speed dial (ie. Speed Dial 01) Press "set" Display reads "tel number" Press "set" input # you want to send faxes to Press "set" Display reads "Name" Press "set" use letters on keypad to input receivers name (ie. For letter "C" press #2 three times, you may have to use the arrow keys to move the cursor for names such as BC Corp) Once name is input - you guessed it- Press "set" you will now be presented with various other send options which most people/businesses never use. You can hit stop to return to normal mode. After inputting speed dial #'s & names, you can print a list of what you have input by getting back to the "Tel registration" screen & pressing the report button. I can be reached @ bspier@carlsonsupplies.com if you need more assistance. Good Luck!!
