Whell th eproblem is, when u pluged it in to the seagate...... a variation of the first sector happend, or something like that, thats y you cannot access it frome vista, and propably frome xp 2, what u can do is , using special programes for fixing boot sectors **** they are for experienced users in that domain (ex of product, winpe mini cd....), or u can download any linux live cd, its totally free (google for it), i recomand puppy if you are not familior with linux, when u download the iso and burn it, plug your external drive and boot the cd, when loaded, mount the extrenal drive and the internal one (if u have one), you will see the data, copy them , and then reboot with windows and format the external drive...then recopy the files.

It sounds as if the SMART measurements on your Seagate 320GB hard drive are triggering the Windows message advising that the drive is failing.

You would be best advised to backup your data from this drive to a different drive or on to DVD media (depending on how much data is involved).

To test the failing Seagate disk, download a copy of Hiren's Boot CD which is a CD image file (.ISO) and must be burnt to a blank CD disc - then boot the computer with the failing disk from this CD - then select DOS Programs on the initial menu, then choose Hard Disk Tools and then HDAT2 - this is a tool which will let you try to recover any bad sectors on your boot disk.

On the Hard Disk Tools menu there is also a SMARTUDM - HDD S.M.A.R.T. viewer which will let you examine exactly which areas of the Seagate disk are giving the problem leading to the failure message.

My son downloaded a movie to my seagate expansion portable drive 250 gb. I pluged it into my computer and open My computer and I can find seagate. I click to open and I can see the file for the movie,...

Most likely you don't have the codec required for movies. You can try a different player, or you can install a codec pack such as The k-lite codec pack . It's free. All you need to do is to leave all the settings as is when you install it, and it should work afterwards. If it still doesn't then it's because Windows Media Player can't open it for some reason.

Another player would probably work in that case. I recommend trying Media Player Classic.
Good luck!

How old is the drive?
Is it possible that it is till under warraty from Seagate?
WIth the serial number and the model number, you can look this up on the seagate website here:

http://support.seagate.com/customer/warranty_validation.jsp?form=0

It will tell you if your HD is still under warranty from Seagate. If it is, return it. They will send you a replacement in about 2 weeks and the only thing you will have to pay is to ship the HD to them (I sent mine to an address in TX)

Wd and Seagate usb hard drives attached to computer Will not boot when WD usb hd on Seagate makes no difference

Check the drive letter assignment for the disks, and make sure it is not the C: driver.
I am assuming you can boot and then plug the disk, right?
So use the Disk Manager to check the driver letter, and change it if it is conflicting with another disk.
