If you absolutely sure on the procedure you used to turn on the unit. Then most probably the Power supply is faulty.

I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 which is running windows xp pro. I have 2 Gigs of memory, the computer runs ok, but I'm receiving info from scans that my HDD Pata is about to go,I'd like to change

Well, you will want to open up the side of your computer and see if there are SATA ports on the motherboard. They look like this:

Though they may not be blue.

If there are SATA ports on your board, you are in good shape. Just buy any SATA hard drive (SATA2 and SATA3 are backwards compatible) and connect it with the SATA connector and a SATA power connector from the power supply. Don't be afraid, these can only plug in one way without forcing them and only SATA plugs will fit.

After that, there are a variety of drive cloning programs you can use to clone your current hard drive onto another so that you don't lose anything.

If you don't have SATA plugs on your motherboard, it is easily remedied. You can buy a PCI SATA card for quite a reasonable price like this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816124024

You will also probably need a small adapter like this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812189121
To convert a molex plug into a SATA power plug.

After you plug in the card and the new hard drive, run the driver CD for the SATA add-in card and then run a cloning program.

I have corei3 system. their confiuratio is intel corei3 processor 3.2 ghz/intel DH61ww motherboard,seagate 500gb sata hdd,lg 22x sata dvdrw50w smps,atx comuter case,15.6" lcd acer monitor,xerox phesar...

sounds like you need a higher wattage power supply!! meaning if you have a 500 watt power supply and it burned up then you may need a higher wattage power supply!! try a 650 or 750 watt power supply. there is only 4 screws holding the power supply in place, just un-plug all internal power cables and remove the screws and do the reverse with a new power supply. please go slow the connecting internal power cables are keyed meaning that they only fit one way!!! DO NOT FORCE THE PLUGS INTO THEIR SOCKETS OR YOU WILL BLOW UP YOUR MOTHERBOARD!!! sorry for the caps!

I have what I think is an Inoi Sata multimedia hDD ( Square aluiminum case) .I have connected it to a Windows 7 computer and has failed to be recocognised. Where do I find suitable drivers thanks

Hello,

you should not need drivers for that all, windows should be able to recognize it.

These things usually need an external power supply, first check if it is connected.

Try it with a different computer. If it works then I suggest a system restore on the other comp.
If it doesn't work (which is likely) then you should take apart the metal case, remove the HDD (which is a totally standard desktop HDD) and plug it inside the comp with the SATA port. Windows then will correct the disk errr upon turning on. If it doesn't work this way either then it's dead. If it works flawlessly, but when put back into the case it doesn't wok again then the housing is faulty.

Good luck!

My Power Edge is not starting. On the power supply there are no LEDs whatsoever lit. The cord is OK TO the supply since I have tried it. The server is stone dead and does not start. What is wrong?

In most cases like this, if there are no lights on the back of the power supplies, (i assume there are 2, as I have a 2950 and it has 2) that they are dead, and need to be replaced. If you haven't tried it already try this: 1. Swap out power cords, try different ones. 2. Swap out surge protector if you are using one. 3. Switch wall outlets that the surge protector or power cord is plugged into. If none of that helps then you can safely assume the power supplies are dead. Did you have any power outage or surges lately that you know of?

Hi there i have SATA multimedia Hdd 500 gb now i connect it to my computer it dosent detect it , i dont know wat the problem is , do i need to install drivers ?

If you have a SATA HDD that connects with E-Sata, the device needs to be plugged into a power supply as well as the sata port.
If it connects via USB, your computer should just pick it up.
If it is USB and has no power supply, you may need to use a Y connector to plug it into 2 usb ports to get the power it needs

Believe it or not, it will not turn on. It is

Any indicator light showing? If so then your power supply works, but something is preventing it from coming up enough to turn your TV on. If there are no lights whatsoever on the TV, then you can probably assume your power supply is dead. Contact the manufacturer or a certified technician to fix it.

Car is completely dead, like somebody shot it dead! No sounds, no light, can't shift out of park into neutral or anything....everything completely dead...no warning whatsoever!

Always clean the battery terminals before jumping. An extremely dead battery may not accept a jump as it serves as a 'buffer" instead of helping. If you do get it started, charge battery with a battery charger then have alternator and battery tested for proper operation and check belt condition and tension as well.

Emachine Won't power up

Just because it has a SATA plug doesn't mean you'll need it- especially if your machines a few years old. If your hard drive doesn't have the sata connections, then you probably won't use it.
As to why it still won't power up- how did you determine your last power supply was dead? Did you happen to switch out with a known good one? There is the slim chance the new one is ****- bad out of box. Any of your friends have a power supply tester or can you buy one? They are cheap- about $20. A good investment if you help others out as well.

Connecting an IDE HDD to a SATA port using an IDE to SATA converter

Not complete product...need to buy additional adapter for IDE to SATA power source.
IDE drive will have to have the power source hooked up as well as the adaptor hooked up.
Installing the adaptor only will not work. Your computer should have the 4 pin plug for the power to the IDE drive, other wise you will have to buy another adaptor.
