The belt that rotes the drum has a belt tensioner that keeps the belt tightly fitted on the drum. You may have a dried up belt or a dried up bearing in the roller for the belt tensioner. An inspection can be done by removing the top and front panel of your dryer to see

My maytag dryer model lde5914acm makes a 'ker-thunk' noise as the drum rotates. It makes the noise approximately every rotation of the drum. It has been getting progressively worse over the last 10 loads....

Dave,
First off I would suggest a visual inspection of the inside of the drum. Also try to observe it while it is running to see if the drum is off balance. That can happen if a large or awkward load is put in the dryer. If that doesn't yield any results then it may be time to check things out inside the machine. I would strongly recommend disconnecting power from the unit, especially if you are unsure of what you are doing. It just isn't worth the risk. Look for anything that seems wrong or out of place. Aside from that, I can't be of too much help without being there.

Loud bang during dryer rotation. front loaded dryer. dryer is six years old. bang is with evry rotation of drum.

not nkowing what brand, I would guess its a maytag or one of their brands. It sounds like a screw that mounts one of the paddles inside the drum has backed out and is now poking out the out side of the drum hitting the cabnet as it goes around. Un plug it , pop the top open , rotate the drum clock wise by hand slowly to see if a screw is standing up on drum.
If its a whirpool dryer with the lint filter inside the door, the top cabnet is dented down, hitting the drum.
someone sat on the top, bent it down.

Drum makes noises as it turns

Your rollers may be bad. The drum rotates on three or four rollers. You would have to remove the front of the dryer and then pull the drum to see them. If you decide to replace them, it would be wise to get the felt kit that attaches to the drum as well. Good luck.
