No, tried that already, it won't power up by any means, the light doesn't come on and I can't hear it. Have tried external power and changed the USB but nothing.

Hello Sir,

does this disc have some external power source?

If so then just plug it in.

If it takes power through USB then your USB port is damaged, try other USB port.

Cheers,
Mike

    Hello Sir,

AS you know with computer devices there is not one-best-sollution as we never know the real problem.

Sending back device to store takes time and it's frustrating.

There are no information in manual?
Try to punch it 2 times maybe that will make him running as I have no idea what could happen if thats new device.

double, triple times check if ALL cables are plugged in correctly

    Cheers,
    Mike

My Seagate portable 320gb external hard drive fell on the floor now my computer and laptop don't see it( won't let me get in to the hard drive) , how do I fix this , Important files on it Help please

Since this external hard drive is USB powered and felt on the floor, you could have a broken USB connector or interface card, both located inside hard disk case, you should contact Seagate technical support or repair service, or if you have electronics skills, you could open and check hardware by yourself.

Non detectable external self powered 40 GB USB Portable Hard Disk

Id recommend trying these following steps: Go to: Start - Control panel - Administrative tools - Computer management - Disk management. Here you should be able to see the 40GB hard drive. Depending on your situation you may need to create a partition, to do so right click the unallocated space and choose to create a partition. The default settings will be fine. Good luck!
