Question about GE Profile PSW26P Stainless Steel Side by Side Refrigerator
This is a new refrigerator purchased from Lowes only 5 months ago at considerable cost. I have two problems with this box. 1. The defroster fan runs noisy, often a loud knocking sound. We have a moderate size kitchen (12x15) and the noise is unbearable. GE customer support says this is "normal". I wouldn't mind so much if it would run when we are not in the kitchen or nearby family room, but it starts essentially whenever it wants too, regardless if family or company are present. 2. The refrigerator won't hold temperature at indicated settings. Even though the door digital thermostat indicates 34 degrees, a measurement inside the box near the top indicates 45 degrees using a linear alcohol thermometer. Needless to say, milk stored in the refrigerator sours quickly and must be discarded when only half empty. The frez has unbearable noisy and the fan is consistanly on even we don't open it all day. The noise is like a storm - very strong wind blowing. The worse thing is the ice stucked so it takes forever to get the ice so we have to get rid of the old ice and make new ice. We finally decided to turn off the ice maker but now even we turn it on, it doesn't make ice anymore. This frez is only a little over a year. the noise is from the very begining when we bought. We just never bother to call for service but now the ice maker is not working, we would need to call the repair man and they will charge a fortune :-( thanks
Apparently the digital read out sensor is bad. 45°F is to high for safe food storage. The fact that the milk spoils is another factor which speaks on its own that there is a temperature control problem. There is no "defroster fan". There are two fans in the unit. One is the air circulation fan located inside the freezer compartment and the other is the condenser fan for cooling the refrigeration system. If you had called for service in the first year it would be covered by warranty with the exception of the service call charge. After the first year ends electrical and control problems are not covered. If the evaporator fan in the freezer is noisy there is something wrong with it. It could be the source of your whole problem.
