You haver to hold the Mode button down long enough to have the unit recoginze that he mode is going to change, when the "Alarm window" starts flashing, let up. Press the Mode button again and hold to move to time, and likewise for date and time. When appropriate window is flashing (example for time) the #1 button decreases the hour, #2 button increases the hour, the #3 button decreases the minute, and the #4 button increases the minute. You may have to hold the number buttons down for awile (my unit takes about 10 to 12 flashes) just to change one number, then let up and press again to change the number again. maybe I just have worn buttons but this method seems to work on my method. As far as power issues, don't leave the power cord plugged into the unit all the time, only when you need it for CD, Radio, and continuous Soother Sounds. The Unit may be prone to power surges such as lightning strikes that will blow the unit out. the normal alarm-time-date-temp uses very little energy/per day from the back-up battery. Hope this helps

Other solutions maybe you have a bad battery eventhough you replaced it, meaning the new battery may be bad. This has happen to me before on a different device, or perhaps the battery is hooked up in wrong direction. Hope this helps

Radio only plays for 1/2 second and then turns off.

Nevermind! My problem was fixed, I'm embarrassed to say, with new batteries. I had been told that the batteries in the radio were new when in fact they weren't. Thanks anyway.

To activate the sound soother press the round button on the bottom left of the unit marked soother. To change the Soother stations press the "Tuner buttons either left or right. The tuner buttons are located on the bottom half of the unit above the volume buttons. one click of the tuner button moves one station on the sound soother selection.

How to work / setBuch radio alarmclock

I just found my manual for the Sharper Image SI785 CD/Radio Alarm Clock with Sound Soother. Had misplaced it for quite a while. Am not saavy enough to know how to post it online, but if anyone needs one, just email back your address and I'll be happy to send it. I remember how frustrating it has been trying to program/reprogram one without it. Looking forward now to knowing how to use this thing :)
