Ok all you can do is remove, and waiy 5 mins, and then replace the the battery, and see if that "resets" the unit. What that error message is telling you that the "Updating DB, please wait" means, The Data Base, (The area in memory where all the programs data storage are kept) is trying to update, but for some reason, it cannot do so. (usually because of corrupt data or corrupt RAM) So,. Unless the "Reseting" procedure,above, works, there is little that can be economically done, oneself. The only option is to return it to iRiver for repair, or replacement.

It appears that the software of your iRiver Story becomes corrupted.

To fix this, you need to contact the manufacturer and have them upgrade the firmware of your device. Once the firmware is reloaded, your iRiver Story should work correctly.

Thank you and good luck!

Depending on the amount of the data you have on your device, "Refreshing Database" may take a while to finish and is a normal process when starting the device. But if you feel it's frozen, you may try the following steps:

  1. Update the firmware
  2. Remove 3rd party applications which may cause conflicts. These can slow or stop indexing if they fail to load while accessing the database or if they try and reference the DB to early
  3. Make sure that the device memory is not full, it needs a certain minimum of free space to index the files.
If none of this works, the media might be corrupted. Reformat it and then restore.

I can help you with your iRiver Story.

The firmware of your device has become corrupted, but this can be fixed by reloading the iStory system software. I am in the process of uploading it here right now (and will post you the link), but if you are in a rush you can get it from iRiver here.

Just download and unzip the file, copy it to your Story, and when you turn the iRiver back on, it will reload its system software and run like new again.

I hope that helps.

Hello.

There is a tiny hole on the back of the unit that says "reset" next to it. Use a paperclip or needle and poke it in the hole until you feel a small click. This should reset it.

Hope this helps.

My garmin shows a computer picture and doesn't switch on anymore!

Connect it with the USB cable to a PC / Mac - does it communicate with Mygarmin.com? If so look for a software update and load it. Make absolutely sure it's connected to external power - so the battery won't die when updating. Then wait for it to restart.

If no connection then hold the power button for more than 20 seconds - this triggers the auto reset.

If that doesn't help - let it sit like this till the battery has been drained. Then try to restart while charging it.

If still the same - let it drain again and while pressing the On button, hold the lower right corner of the screen for at least 20 seconds. This will trigger a master reset - reverting back to factory mode. It will erase all user data.

Autoamatically loading loudspeaker option and multimedia utility.

I think your phone may need a Software/Firmware update. Before doing that, try resetting the phone:

Take your SIM card out.
Make sure your phone battery is fully charged.
Press * 3 send at the same time and turn the phone on. Keep them pressed until the reset screen appears.
Give it time to reset.
Yes! I know. You need someone to press the ON button.

Then update the Software (sometimes called Firmware) thus:

You need to download the latest Nokia PC Suite to do an update on your phone.
Before updating software you should check that there’s a newer version of software available.

WARNING
When updating software on Mobs, be sure to:
HAVE A FULLY CHARGED BATTERY INSERTED;
PUT IT ON GENERAL PROFILE;
TURN OFF YOUR PIN NUMBER;
CONNECT YOUR CHARGER TO YOUR MOB AND SWITCH IT ON;
DO NOT ----- DO NOT ---- TOUCH YOUR PHONE WHILE THE UPDATE IS GOING ON;
THIS CAN TAKE 30 MINUTES OR MORE.
And obviously don’t unplug the phone from the PC.
Be patient, you may have to do a restart or two on your mob afterwards. Even remove the battery to get it going again (not recommended). But give it plenty of time.
It is also wise not to use your PC while updating software, just in case the PC freezes.
If the PC freezes during an update, you’re up the creek without a paddle...

I did an update on a Sony Eric 810i it took nearly two hours.
More... Your phone turns itself on and off, sometimes more than once while updating software, you should leave it well alone during the update.
