Question about Garden

2 Answers

I purchased a Craftsman electric mower, new overstock from a guy on Craigslist. The green and white wires had pulled out of the control switch, which I thought would be an easy fix. When I took the switch apart, however, pieces went everywhere, and now I can't figure out how it's supposed to go back together. I don't want to pay $80 for a new switch assembly, I just need a picture of the internals, and a wiring diagram. I'm relatively handy. Please help. My wife is riding me hard about being taken by this guy on Craigslist.

This is an ELECTRIC mower, and you are giving me basic troubleshooting advice for a gas mower. I was pretty specific about my problem. The control switch for my Craftsman electric mower is broken. I need to get a schematic of how it is supposed to look internally in order to fix it.

I really would prefer that the safety bar work on this mower, as my son will be using it a lot. Here is a picture of the safety switch. I need to attach the green, red, and two black wires. The two black wires look to be in series, not parallel. I'm not sure what to make of the red. Any help would be appreciated. The side of the switch shows a schematic for the switch.

You may be better of to purchase a toggle stile switch from and auto parts supplier, the toggle type switch mounts into a round hole witch you may half to modify your connection box to accommodate this style of switch but its the easiest solution and works very well, the switch is a s.p.s.t or (single pole single throw) type rated at 15 amps and costs about 5 bucks, the wight and green wire go straight to your motor and chassis and the black wires go to your switch very simple. a rocker switch is mounted into a square hole and may also be suitable for your needs and also cost around 5 bucks

good luck on your repair and remember to insulate any exposed wire with heat shrink tubing or tape

Step 1 Check to see if there is any grass stuck between the blades if you are unable to pull the cord to start your Craftsman lawn mower's engine.

  • Step 2 Measure your tank's oil to make sure that there is enough in the engine if you are able to pull the cord but the engine will either not start, is hard to start, or will not stay started. If you have an electric starter, you will need to also check the battery. If the motor spins but doesn't engage the engine, the overrunning clutch or gear could be broken and you may need to get it professionally repaired.
  • Step 3 Prime the engine the correct way--improper priming is a common problem that can result in your engine starting easily but dying after a few seconds. Cold weather, for instance, requires your engine to be primed double of what it requires in warmer weather. Too much priming can flood your engine.
  • Step 4 Clean your Craftsman lawnmower's carburetor with a towel or rag if your engine is idling roughly or unevenly. If your carburetor appears clean, you may need to contact a technician to check for air leaks or improper adjustment.
  • Step 5 Examine your lawnmower's spark plugs if your engine is hard to start, is running roughly, or quickly dies out. If your spark plugs appear worn or damaged, simply replace them.

When I pull out the switch to my craftsman gt 5000 nothing happens. I s there a fuse I can check and where is it.

I'm guessing you're talking about the Electric Clutch switch. Make sure wires going to the clutch didn't come unplugged or get damaged.

Hi guys i have a craftsman ride on lawn mower and i changed new coil and new plug but is still not getting spark any ideas wud be great

sounds like you have a short on your ground wire...if you disconnect the black lead off your coil and then check for spark you may find you have one now. if so trace that black wire back looking for a bare spot where its rubbing metal. or it could be a safety switch gone bad. but pull wire to see if spark returns.

Pto not working blades not engaging

You can hotwire the clutch and see if it clicks, rule out the switch or the safety. If you take the wires apart and jump them, with the battery, it should klik, if not, the clutch is shot, time for a new one, If it clicks, then the switch or the safety is bad. All the parts are available online or ebay, or craigslist. The new ones are expensive. Check it out, hope this helps.

Pulled old switch out and had two black wires. New switch has 4 wires red, white, black , green

To wire this type of timer:

    Heres what to do
    1) Timer-green-wire connects to bare ground wire.
    2) Switch has 2 insulated wires. Take switch wires and connect them to timer-black-wire and timer-red-wire. Choose either one for now.
    3) In back of electric box are white wires twisted together and covered with wire nut. Connect timer-white to these wires.
    4) If electric box does not have white wires described above, then connect timer-white to bare ground, along with timer-green wire.
    5) Turn on electricity, and push ON-OFF button. If lights come on, timer is wired correctly. If lights do not come on, then reverse timer-red and timer-black wires.

Engine on 17.5 hp craftsman mower starts but stalls when clutch is let out !

Check all 3 of your safety switches mounted on the mower. Take a wire or connector and connect the WHITE wires together on each switch together one at a time to see which one has gone bad. Once you find out which one is bad, take the 2 white wires and connect them together where they're always connected or replace the switch.

Explain how to re-wire 16gal craftsman shopvac, switch wires are- 2 orange wires, one white, one black and one green(grd wire), I pulled them off and don't where each wire goes.

Im not looking at a diagram of your machine.

Typically, in a switch circuit ... the green goes through; the white goes through; the black is broken by the switch.

The two orange wires you speak of ... those come from where? Are they from the motor? If yes, one connects to the white and one connects to the switch.

    I hope this helps you
