Question about Yamaha R-V905 Receiver

No left speaker a output, or distorted output. Good right a, right b and left b.

All sources. At first left a speaker had no sound. Then I hooked speakers to the b output and it worked, using tuner as my test source. I was checking the back of the binding post block, reconnected the speakers to a and now left a has sound, but is distorted. I am thinking cold solder joint?

That would have been a better first post.

I think you're right. Wiggle the speaker A left connection while listening at a medium volume level. You may reveal the cause.

Only right side volume working wehn volume is low, when volume is high both sides work but distorted

Hi there,

It may mean that the connection for your left side speakers are loose or they are not connected properly. you can also try plugging the speakers to another music source (ipod, stereo, etc.)
If the same problem happens it is most likely a faulty wiring on the left speakers.

PS - if your computer volume software has the balance option make sure it's in the middle and not set to have output on just the left or the right side.

Hope this helps!

Str-gx800es sony receiver problem- right channel speaker sound is 'static', low and distorted. I have checked checked all speaker and output/input source cable connections with no luck. All left channel...

If you have checked the speakers and wiring, the right channel has a audio driver or output problem, which explains the low volume, static, and distortion. A service technician will be required to fix the receiver so it will balance the left side.

I have a denon pma 500v amp, has distortion in right channel, both speaker output and headphones, what should i check for first?

Just have a look around first. Remember the left channel will be the same as the right, so if it doesn't look the same in the right as the left you have the cause of the problem. Resistors are good at causing it, but transistors can too.

I have distortion coming out of my front right channel of my AVR

Yes, sounds like your DSP chip has an issue. Not an inexpensive repair if that's the culpret. Around 400-500 to replace the chip. It's an awesome receiver and worth 300-400 in repair, however, a 3800 or 1800 can be had for 600-800 depending where you look. If you need more help, post a comment and I can help you some more.

Fuzzy sound from right front speaker output

The main issue is to determine where the distortion is coming from. Does it start in the front and and get amplified or does it appear in the output section only? This will require a fixed signal and an oscilloscope to trace. Check for leaky coupling caps or leaky transistors in at the diff-amp section.

It could be a dirty control or switch, working them back and forth could prove that. Other than that, It's likely bad outputs. A unit that old may have transistors for outputs but might be IC's. Transistors can be tested with an ohm meter to see if they're good or not. Also if it has transistor outputs, they may have a small value resistor on the Emitters, check those as well.

Hope that helps...
