Question about Craftsman 10" Table Saw

Question re. part

I'm replacing pulleys on 113299040. What is the name of the small bar that fits into the notches on the shaft and the pulley? Do you know where I can order one, or do they come with the replacment pulley from Sears parts?

The key, about 1/4 inch x 1/4 inch, fits in the keyway. They can be found near the pulleys at the store, You can make them, they don't have to be square, I have used 1/4 brass dowels in emergency cases. They snug up pretty good, and believe it or they are pretty tough, brass is harder than most people think. Hope this helps.

Where is the crankshaft position sensor


This site won\'t let me add diagrams. Sorry. The CKPS is located on the passenger side somewhat towards the front of the engine. You will see three pullies somewhat close together. Your serpentene belt which is notched runs over the top pulley down to your crankshaft pulley which has notches on the pulley to accept the belt notches. The belt then goes up to the tensioner. The CKPS is just above the bottom notched pulley which is the end of the crank shaft. It will have a wire going to it. This is a Hall-Effect sensor that reads the high and low points on the pulley. It should have a couple screws and then unplug the wire or cable. Work it out slowly in case it is cracked, this will make your job faster incase it breaks and you have to clean pieces out of a small space. You will have to take a few items off and out of your way to get to the small space. I can do them in about 1 1/2 hours but it may take 2 - 2 1/2. Its just getting to it that is a pain. If your not an expert take pictures as you go for reference and label any wires or components you take off and have to re-install.

How to release a tensioner while replacing Belt pulleys


You place a breaker bar, large screw driver, pry bar, etc...in the notch that is located on top of the tensioner pulley.....The tensioner pulley is located on top of engine near the firewall on the passenger side of car...if you stand at the passenger side of your car and look at your serpentine belt following it around towards the firewall (windshield) the tensioner pulley is at the apex and there is about an 1 1/2" notch at the top of that....that is where you would put your pry bar and you would pull back ( towards the front of your car) on that tensioner and you will see the serpentine belt loosen. I can post a picture is you need one....

REMOVAL
  1. Remove drive belt.
  2. Raise vehicle on hoist. WARNING: TURN AIR SUSPENSION SWITCH (LOCATED IN LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT) OFF TO PREVENT VEHICLE DAMAGE OR PERSONAL INJURY.
  3. Remove power steering pressure hose bracket.
  4. Disconnect electrical connector at power steering control valve actuator.
    1. Install Steering Pump Pulley Remover T69L-10300-B on the pulley hub. CAUTION: Do not apply in-and-out pressure on the power steering pump shaft. Pressure will damage the internal thrust areas.
    2. Hold the small hex-head and rotate the tool nut counterclockwise to remove the power steering pump pulley.
    3. Disconnect power steering pressure hose at power steering pump and drain fluid into a container.
    4. Disconnect power steering return hose at power steering pump and drain fluid into a container.
    5. Remove four retaining bolts and power steering pump and power steering pump pulley assembly.
    6. Remove power steering pressure switch from pump.
    INSTALLATION
    1. Position the power steering pump on the mounting bosses of engine block and install the bolts at the side of the power steering pump. Tighten to 20-30 Nm (15-22 ft. lbs.).
    2. Connect the power steering reservoir pump hose to the power steering pump and reposition the hose clamp to power steering pump inlet fitting.
    3. Replace power steering pressure hose O-ring.
    4. Install the power steering pressure hose to the power steering pump fitting. Tighten the tube nut with a tube nut wrench rather than with an open-end wrench. Tighten to 34-46 Nm (26-33 ft. lbs.). NOTE: Swivel or end play of the power steering pressure hose end is normal and does not indicate a loose fitting.
    5. Place the power steering pump pulley on the power steering pump shaft and install Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacer T91P-3A733-A. The small diameter threads on the tool should be engaged in the power steering pump shaft. CAUTION: Do not apply in and out pressure on the shaft. Pressure will damage the internal rotating group.
    6. Hold the small hex-head and rotate the tool nut clockwise to install the power steering pump pulley on the shaft. CAUTION: Do not apply in and out pressure on the shaft. Pressure will damage the internal rotating group. NOTE: The power steering pump pulley face must be flush within 0.25 mm (0.010 inch) of the end of the pump shaft.
    7. Remove the Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacer T91P-3A733-A.
    8. Remove the shipping tube nut from power steering pump housing prior to installation.
    9. Connect electrical connector to power steering control valve actuator.
    1. Install power steering pressure hose bracket.
    1. Lower the vehicle.
    2. If equipped, turn the air suspension ON.
    3. Install drive belt on the power steering pump pulley.
    4. Fill the power steering pump reservoir with Power Steering Fluid Motorcraft MERCON(r) ATF.

Pulley wheel slips off and the agitation stops.


There should be square notch in the pulley and one in the shaft, this keeps the pulley on the shaft, if that shear pin or keeper is missing you will need to replace it most auto parts shops have shear pin material in stock and they are pretty cheap.

Won't Spin


CHECK TO SEE IF SMALL CLIP ON BOTTOM OF PULLEY HAS FALLEN OFF. IF CLIP FELL OFF, THE PULLEY MIGHT OF SLIDE DOWN AND MOTOR SHAFT IF SPINNING. PUSH PULLEY UP AND ON END OF SHAFT ARE NOTCHES WHERE CLIP SLIDES ON. GE RECOMMENDS YOU REPLACE IT. MACHINE NOT LEVEL OR CLOTHES NOT BALANCED PROPERLY CAN CAUSE CLIP TO FALL OFF. HOPEFULLY THIS INFO HELPS.

Tune-up Specifications
Air/Fuel Ratio 0.7% Air/Fuel Ratio-Limits[1] 0.3 - 1.1% Timing[2] 6°+/- 1°BTDC Timing Advance[3] 30°+/- 3°BTDC Idle RPM[4] 800 +/- 50 [1] Check CO with the oxygen sensor connected. [2] AT 2300 RPM, and coolant temperature sensor disconnected. [3] Normal operating temperature, with coolant temp. sensor connected, at 2300 RPM. Add initial timing. [4] A/C off.
Timing mark is on flywheel, access hole is on top of bellhousing. Remove access plug with 27mm wrench if necessary
Firing Order is > 1342 Clockwise Rotation & #1 Plug Wire is at 2 Oclock on Distribitor Cap


Align the mark (can be a dot or notch) on the intermediate shaft sprocket with the notch in the crank pulley. Align the mark (can be a dot or notch) on the "Back" of camshaft sprocket with the top edge of the valve cover gasket. Be sure all the timing marks are properly aligned.

NOTE : The 8 valve engine requires a special wrench, Volkswagen No. US4493 or equivalent, to adjust the camshaft drive belt tensioner. Whenever the drive belt is removed and refitted, the camshaft and intermediate shaft timing MUST be adjusted. The drive belt can be replaced without removing the belt sprockets.
  1. Loosen alternator adjusting bolts and remove the fan belt.
  2. Remove the water pump pulley bolts and remove the pulley.
  3. Remove the upper timing cover bolts and remove the cover.
  4. Remove the timing belt guide, if equipped.
  5. Turn the engine by hand to set the No. 1 piston at Top Dead Center (TDC) and remove the crankshaft pulley.
  6. Remove bolt and nuts securing the lower timing cover and remove the cover. CAUTION: Turning the camshaft or crankshaft with the timing belt removed may cause damage to pistons and/or valves.
  7. Loosen timing belt tensioner locknut, release belt tension and remove belt from sprockets.
  8. Inspect belt for visible damage such as missing teeth or exposed threads. Inspect tensioner bearing for smooth running. Any damaged components should be replaced.
NOTE : On high mileage engines, failure of the tensioner bearing is a possibility. Consider replacing the bearing when replacing the timing belt.
  1. Align the mark (can be a dot or notch) on the intermediate shaft sprocket with the notch in the crank pulley. Align the mark (can be a dot or notch) on the "Back" of camshaft sprocket with the top edge of the valve cover gasket. Be sure all the timing marks are properly aligned.
  2. Temporarily install the crankshaft pulley to the crankshaft. Fit the timing belt starting with the crankshaft and intermediate shaft sprockets. Fit the belt so that it is as tight as possible between the crankshaft and the intermediate shaft sprockets and between the intermediate shaft and camshaft sprockets.
    1. Turn the belt tensioner clockwise to adjust the tension. The direction is important to avoid contact with the timing cover. Check the tension by twisting the belt as shown. You should be able to twist it no more than 90 degrees.
    2. Tighten the tensioner locknut to: 33 ft lbs (45 Nm)
    3. Rotate the crankshaft two revolutions and recheck the belt tension and the timing marks for proper alignment.
    NOTE: Very slight movement of sprockets and marks can be expected as belt tension is adjusted. Slight movement is OK. The smallest possible increment of adjustment is one whole tooth of the belt or sprocket.
    1. Remove the crankshaft pulley and refit the lower timing cover. Tighten the bolts to: 87 in lbs (10 Nm)
    2. Refit crankshaft pulley and tighten the bolts to: 15 ft lbs (20 Nm)
    3. Refit timing belt guide, if equipped.
    4. Refit upper timing cover and tighten bolt and nuts to: 87 in lbs (10 Nm)
    5. Refit water pump pulley and tighten the bolts to: 15 ft lbs (20 Nm)
    6. Refit fan belt and adjust tension. Tighten alternator adjusting bolts.

Timing marks


this is a complex fix. if the timing belt is off, you will have to align both of the cams (V6??) to their respective notches on the back plate that protects the belt. You must also align the crank shaft to TDC, top dead center. Put the belt on (with tensioner off) then put tensioner on and release allen key. turn the engine by hand or using the starter two full rotations, the notches on the tops of the cam pulleys should be perfectly alligned with the notches on the back plate. if not, you missed a notch in the wrong spot and have to try again.

i've done this twice, once on a lexus es250 v6, and again on my 94 camry, its one of the hardest things i've ever done when repairing cars. be patient, have a friend help, don't get frustrated. if you really cant get it, have a mechanic come to your house and drop him a few bills to help you. you'll be glad you did
