Greetings. The set was purchased in April 2005 (Serial Number 409KT00272) and has had about 2,000hrs of use. Recently it has been producing blotchy colors which are particularly noticeable in the lighter hues, blue sky and skin tones etc. The problem occurs on all input sources, cable, DVD and VCR. Also, various video settings have no affect, the distortion is always present.
Do you have any suggestions as to how the problem can be rectified?
I have exactly the same problem occuring with my 42 inch LG plasma only statrted about 2 weeks ago and have owned the unit for about 2.5 years.

Same problem here, Does it get as bad as looking at negatives and sometimes completely fades away. Purchase in 1/15/05. out of warranty of course. An authorized repair center Listed from LG won't touch it. They said they've had problems with LG with this model and getting items replaced. Almost every situation, it is unrepairable. They even recommended that it would be in both of our best interest to purchase a new one.

I have the identical tv, with the same problem. I have a LG Tech on the way as we speak 12/26, I've been searching sites for weeks, till I found this one. LG was very helpful on the phone in finding me a repair center close by. I will post by the end of the day, and let you know how it goes. When I spoke with the repair center, they told me it was a common problem with the older model's, and repairable . I have the identical tv, with the same problem. Would NEVER buy an LG product of any type again. In 2005, I bought a plasma LG TV model # DU (for dud) 42 PX 12X and after 2 years, vertical stripes in bright primary colours showed up on the screen. Now half of the screen has disapeared. We were quoted $400 by a repair person to look at it and then additional cost to repair. The repair person told me that LG plasma TVs are the WORST, suggested I cut my losses and buy a different brand of TV. What bothers me is where do all these TVs end up? Landfill? They should all be delivered back to LG. Would NEVER buy an LG product of any type again. speakers inside the set (see menu) switchedon or off?
internal/external switch somewhere in or on back of set?
Clearly it could be a audio problem (a model number?) but explore all here thatyou have not already done--make sure theremote set to TV and look for a button on it marked MTS and if there cycle it.
You can also determine if same trouble when you play a DVD.
This will be your screen controller board that has failed also known as the ldv's board, With the back removed from your TV it will sit below your power supply and be connected via a ribbon cable to your Y Sustain board on the left. Remove it and take the part number of the board then Google or Ebay for a replacement.
This can be on the matrix drive board, or the display assembly itself. It is possible to also have a defect in the address decoding area that will cause this.
The procedure is to swap out the suspect boards to determine where the fault is, leave the working boards in the set, and then follow up any necessary calibrations that are necessary.
call 877-543-8325 this is an LG Executive call center and they will fix this for free. I have a 50" plasma I bought january 2006 which is out of warranty by 5 months. They faxed me and the LG repair shop a 30 day warranty for my tv to cover the repair. Just tell them you heard a pop and in my case the picture is distorted. All they need is the model number and serial number and they should take care of it. No arguing needed.

You likely will not be able to get the parts from LG. The Viore is made by more than 1 company. The serial number will likely help me detrmine me what company made the set.
