Use the portrait mode to reduce the depth of field. I'd also suggest shooting in color. Photoshop (or any other photo editing software) will give you much better control over the conversion than the camera ever could.

You can download the manual (and more) from

Can i use my sony HVR-V1P for self portraits

A self portrait from a camcorder? Just set it on a tripod, get yourself situated and let it run for a few minutes or less.
Then run it though a free program as simple as Picasa. If you don't have it a simple search is all you need to do.
Use the Stop button to freeze frame then use the upper left command 'File' to 'save a copy' and it saves any frame you want. I do this all the time with fast moving subjects (kids, critters, jets etc.) then find the perfect shot in a frame.

Replaced both color and black cartridges. Prints only color when I try to print a flyer with both text and picture.

The black print head nozzles maybe blocked.
Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent blocked print head nozzles. You may have blocked print head nozzles.
Try the printer maintenance to clear the printer nozzles.
After several deep cleaning attempts and there is no improvements in the print then a new print head is required.

I cant get corect skin colour tone in auto white balance.i got some photographs and i see exif data of that photos in photoshop.at the exposure mode it showing manual exposure but at the scene cature type...

You can't. The Portrait mode, like all the other point&shoot modes, are automatic. The camera controls most functions, like exposure metering, auto-focus mode, and white-balance. If you want control over the camera, you'll have to use one of the PSAM modes.

Can someone please help me i have just printed off 400 prints with my brother hl 4040CN laser printerits brand new and its now saying my cyan toner has ran out this is impossible i am right in the middle...

Your toner usage will depend upon how much of each color toner is used on each page. (To conserve colors when printing in Black and White only, specify monochrome in your printer setup) <div>I had similar problems when printing publicity flyers. The toner cartridges claim to be good for about 2000 prints each, but I was lucky to get 3 or 400 pages when printing blocks of color. The TN115 cartridges hold significantly more toner, and the cartridges that come with the printer are TINY.</div>

How to cut clear hair in photoshop

Sounds like you want to make a hair mask. If your subject is on a simple back ground, go into your color channels and duplicate the one that is the darkest for the hair. Apply levels to darken even more and then fill in other non hair areas of the head and body with black. Get in close and remove any artifacting around the edges of the hair so it is clearly black and white, no grey or at least try not to have any grey.
Inverse the tones so the hair becomes white and the background black. Make a selection and use it to lift your subject off the background. If you have any fuzzy areas, you can lock the layer and clone hair into them and/or remove them with the eraser or use layer mask.

Printing black and white photos from digitally taken colour photos

Hi Pat,

First you will have to check the Nozzle of your printer. To do this, press the setup button and select Nozzle Check. Use a plain paper to do this. Press Ok after that. It will print out a pattern for each color. Make sure that the lines are connected to each other specially for black since that you are printing a black and white photo. Lines going across is on a stair case pattern and should be connected to each other. Proceed with cleaning cycle if needed.

You can do a cleaning cycle using your printer of the computer. You can skip this if you have a good Nozzle check.

Using printer:
Press setup then select head cleaning.

Using computer.
Go to utility of the printer and find maintenance. Click on the head cleaning button.

Once that the nozzle are fine, you can now try printing. I strongly suggest that you use other application first instead of Adobe Photoshop. Since that Photoshop uses color management, it can be that the settings are incorrect. Save first the picture that you opened in Photoshop. You can save it on your desktop to easily locate the file. Make sure that the file is in jpeg format. Now to isolate the issue if it is cause by a software or not, try the standard application for your O.S.

Smaple Application:
Windows O.S. : Windows Picture and Fa Viewer
- right click on the file and select open with.
- select windows picture and fax viewer.
- folow the on screen instuctions.
Note: If you are now on the window on what pinter to use. Make sure that you set the option for printers under preferences to print in gray scale or black only. Select also the correct paper type.
- Proceed with printing.

Mac OSX: Preview or Iphoto
- open the picture under one of the application.
- click file then print.
- Make sure printer is selected.
- underneath the print option, you will have to go to print setting.
- find the option that says color then select black.
- select the appropriate settings for paper.
- the click on print.

Now see if it did print out corectly. If it did, it means that the appplication is the one causing this. If you are familiar with the color manage features of the application Photoshop. Let Photoshop handles the color. After getting to the widow what printer to use, to the the preferences of the printer and select the correct paper type. You will have to find the color management of the printer.

For Windows, It under the advance option under the main tab. Select off no color adjustment.
For Mac instead of going to print setting, find color manage and turn it off. Select off no color adjustment.

Then try printing.

Regarding your other question, If the printer is producing excess inks on your print out when ot comes to black printing and color printing, that pad needs replacement.

Printing 2 pages on landscape document

Usually if you see the page in the Publisher window is already landscape, it will go landscape in the Printpreview and also in the print out. I just try to imagine what is your problem.
If I am not mistaken, this is what you did:
You have two "small" pages (maybe A5??) and you want to print it in one page of A4. Of course the A4 should be landscape.
Publisher does not have the facility to set 2 pages A5 in one A4 like in Microsoft Word.
The easiest way is just create a new page with A4, then copy the 2 pages (or you called it flyers) and paste it in that A4 landscape page.
Publisher can do print 2 pages A5 in one sheet A4 but the arrangement is as booklet. You can see the choices in File --> Page Setup --> tab "Layout" --> scroll the Publication type.
I do print 2 pages A5 in one sheet with many variations using addition software named "Clickbook".
Let me know if I m wrong in interpret your problem.

Trouble printing to photo paper

The paper you print on is not relevant. What happens is the green tint is the actual printer delivering all the colours to give a 'composite' black. On shiny photo paper this is emphasized where as on plain paper the colour is absorbed and shows as intended. So what can you do? Move away from black and go for a tint such as sepia.
