Question about iRiver H340 MP3 Player

Computer does not recognise the iRiver

My computer system (Windows XP Home) recently crashed and I had to reinsert all the software, including for the iRiver H340. But when connecting the iRiver to the computer the computer no longer seems to recognise it and there is no icon in the y Computer window. What do I do? Do I need to download something? It always worked before. Thank you,

    No, but I do not recall having to download any drivers when originally installing, I thought all that was necessary was to insert the cd. I'll look into it. Thanks.

You should have a system recovery disk. If you don't, then you will need a XP Home disk. As long as you have the XP installation code (usually placed on a sticker on the outside of your comptuer), you can use any XP Home disk. It's the product code that is really needed. Go borrow a CD from a friend and use your software code that is on your computer.

At the moment, the only method of getting Windows XP install media is by purchasing the disc or ordering install media directly from Microsoft. The other way is if you're a MSDN subscriber, you can usually download software images from Microsoft and use your own key.

The other way to do this is by finding a friend who has a Windows XP cd of your version [for example, Windows XP Home OEM, OEM meaning that the disc came with a manufacturer such as Dell or HP, or Windows XP Home Retail, meaning that the disc came in a Windows XP Home box someone purchased]. If you can borrow thier disc, you can use your key off of your COA [Certificate of Authenticity] which is a sticker on your computer showing your 25 digit license key. This will install Windows XP legally on your system again.

If you own an OEM computer like Compaq, HP, Dell, etc, you can also try contacting support for that PC manufacturer and seeing if you can order recovery media for your computer model. This will install the operating system, all drivers, and software that originally came with your computer back to default when you bought your PC. You may also have recovery software installed on your computer. Look under your start menu and see if you have a suite of software from your PC manufacturer, including recovery software or system restore software.

It sounds like you were tricked into downloading a malware infection, this will usually include a few trojans as well.

Please do not assume that because a website tells you you need something that it is true, or you will be getting lots of these kinds of infections.

Removing this infection is not something a novice can do you will need to take the machine to a professional.

I can't connect my iriver h10 to the computer.


okay heres the deal. ive had the same problem and i realized that u have to have windows media player running in order for windows to pick up the device. it will ask u to synce the device with ur comp and then ur good to go. kind of dumb that u have to have an app running in order to get it to work but thats microsoft for ya.

Somehow the driver went missing. Click on "My Computer" and then click "view system information," then "hardware," then "device manager," then click on iRiver (it'll be there even without the driver) and then it will give you a yes/no option to look for driver software. Obviously, click "yes" but notice that you are also cued to put in a CD "if you have one." I still had the CD. It will search both the CD and online for a driver, but the computer found the driver software on the CD. Make sure you only put the CD in when cued to do so. If you don't have the CD, then contact iRiver about getting a driver download or having them send you a copy of the CD.
