Question about KitchenAid K45SS Classic Stand Mixer

Mixer - motor dead

Hi I only used my Kitchen Aid stand mixer a few times before we emigrated from the uk to Spain. On arriving in Spain we changed the plug to a Spanish one (as we did with all our electrical appliances without problems). When we tried to use it again for the first time the motor didn't work and it was completely dead. Have done the obvious and checked the fuse plug other power points etc... But it just doesn't work. Any ideas? Thanks

Mixer won't start after mixing dough.

There is a good chance you burned up the electrical Connectors to the motor or you have have blown the FUSE that is located inside the housing. The Motor has a Self Shut Off when it overheats but if you have over taxed the motor more than once, then there is a good change you need to repair/replace it with something that can handle harder work. My sister got a Mix Master the same time I got my Kitchen Aid, My Kitchen Aid is running strong since 2003 and her Mix Master died in 2005 and I bought her a Kitchen Aid. Sorry but I am not fond of the Sunbeam Mixer's.... Quality has gone down hill over the years to keep their prices low.

Mixer - motor dead

I have heard similar problems when the mixer has been transported. It usually happens if the mixer is transported on its side. If there was any burned flour on the brushes the jostling of the mixer can cuse it to get between the brushes and the armature.

So check the brushes. They get caked up with burned flour. Remove the brush caps and pull the brushes out by their springs, being VERY careful to note the position of them since they only go back in one way. Measure the free length of the spring before pulling it out. It is critical that you write down the length sticking out with very slight pressure on it so that it is seated against the armature when you measure.

Clean the curved surface of the carbon brushes with a sharp knife being careful not to scratch the curved surface. If you have them installed wrong they will not go all the way in and will not contact the armature and it will not run. Measure the length, as done above, of the spring to make sure it is in correctly!! If it is not in correctly the spring will stick out 1/4 inch longer than it should.

Kitchen aid stand mixer bought in US, moving to Europe, 220v 50hz

I can not respond to the warranty issues. My kitchen aid mixer is past warranty as well. I live in a country that uses 220V and my kitchen aid mixer is 110V. I have been using my kitchen aid mixer for almost 4 years with no problems at all.

The converter boxes are supposed to blow the fuse on the converter before it reaches your appliance and cause any problems.

If you purchase a 220V kitchen aid (although it would cost more money) it would probably have more power because of the higher voltage.

Hope this helps!

Leaking oil from the main part. Kitchen aid mixer, only used a few times a year

Leaking of oil in a stand mixer is not necessarily indicative of a large problem.

Kitchenaid stand mixers are overpacked with oil to last the lifetime of the motor. If the motor sits idle for some time (is not used), the oil may begin to drip from the gears and settle. Oil leakage may primarily be seen from around the beater shaft or planetary action.

A stand mixer can lose up to a 1/4 cup of oil before it needs to be serviced.

It is recommended to run the mixer on speed 10 for 2 minutes in order to redistribute oil back into the motor. In order to prevent future occurences, this is recommended to be done every 3 weeks if mixer is not being used.

Food made with KitchenAid Stand mixer tastes like grease

The likelyhood of grease coming from the mixer is extremely small. As long as the beater & bowl were washed first and the shortening you used was fresh, there shouldn't be a grease taste.

Can the Kitchen aid accessories fit the Wolfgang puck stand mixer

If you happen to have a friendly toolmaker with a small metal lathe it should not be too difficult to modify KITCHEN AID accessories that fit on to the front powwer outlet. However Puck Stand Mixer accessories are occasionaly offered on the Web. Meat grinders are very common and original Puck pasta maker have also been seen. Get searchin'!

Kitchen aid 110v 450watt, I want to convert to 220v

Hi guys,

The only available Kitchen Aid stand mixers on the European markets are the Kitchen Aid Classic and the Kitchen Aid Artisan.

The best way is to contact a Kitchen Aid service center / repair facility in your area.
Here is the European website of Kitchen Aid: http://www.kitchenaid.eu/eu_EU/ka/ka_europe.htm

If you bought a different Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer (like the Professional series) you probably won't find the required parts to convert it to a European model. The only way would be to use a voltage converter.

I hope this helps.
