If the PS3's built in repair will not fix the issue then you will need to pull the hard drive and format it on a computer. The link below will take you through the process. Note if you still have trouble then there is something wrong with the hard drive and you will need to replace it.

Windows XP starts then restarts over and over

Heaps of things can cause this - corrupt software, corrupt OS, virus, hard disk error. etc

First of all, I'd try turning the pc on, press the F8 key repeatedly until you get a list of options in dos mode text.
The first one listed will be safe mode.
use the arrow keys to select Last Known Good Configuration.
press enter, and, if you are in luck, your system will boot up just like normal.
This has fixed numerous pcs in the past.
If it works, I'd advise doing a checkdisk on the hard disk and running an AV scan, just to make sure.

If that fails, I'd again press F* repeatedly on boot, then select safe mode.
Wait ages, until you get a prompt with heaps of text, with yes to go to safe mode, no to go to system restore.
Select NO, and the system restore wizard will start... select a date previous to when the issue started, wait a while, and then test. if that goes thru, but the system still wont boot, i'd rerun system restore, but choose an earlier restore point.

If that fails, you'll need to boot from an XP disk, home or pro - the one that matches your OS - home or pro... boot from the cd, at first screen press r to repair via the recovery console.
select your os partition ( usually just press 1)
put in your admin password (usually just press enter, unless one is set)
and, when you can see the command line...
type in
chkdsk /r c:
and press enter.
this will check and repair, if possible, any faults on the hard disk.
once this completes, reboot and retest.

If that fails, you'll need to again boot from an XP disk, at the first screen press enter to install OS, press F8 to accept the licence agreement... then, if and ONLY if you get the option to press "r" to repair, press R, and allow it to repair the OS.
DO NOT CONTINUE PAST THIS SCREEN OR CHOOSE ANY OTHER OPTION OTHER THAN R, as you will OVERWRITE YOUR DATA.

To reiterate, if you don't get the option to press R to repair STOP, or otherwise say goodbye to your files.
you will not get the option to repair if you either are using the wrong xp disk, ie home disk with pro OS, or vice versa, or if the hard disk is corrupt, or the OS is too badly damaged to be recognised...

Hope this info helps.

If you are getting the corrupted drive message this means that you have corrupted data on your hard drive or there is something wrong with the drive. The link below will help you address the issue and format the drive with your computer if needed.

Try this:

turn on ps3 press x to restore on 0 % quickly pull out hdd. then wait may take up to an hour a message will come up to formate hdd. put hdd back in and press yes to format this process worked with in seconds for me but can take longer. it does work but you will lose all saved stuff but online stats will still be on the system. good luck hope it works for u to.

or this:
New fix (possibly), and it doesn't take a laptop or a friend's PS3 to do.

Simply remove the hard drive from your PS3, and turn on the console. It should display a screen saying the hard drive will need to be reformatted. Then, plug the hard drive back into your PS3, and allow it to reformat. Your save game data will be erased, but you should be able to use your PS3 again.

whoever has a problem withe their ps3 needing to be reformatted just take out your hdd when the restore comes up, then press x, it will take a will before the ps3 tells u to insert a hdd to be formatted (took me 12 minutes)

good luck

My ps3 says hard disk is corrupted and wont resore

Hi,

For a complete walkthrough on how to correctly troubleshoot and hopefully resolve this issue please view my FixYa Tip at this link.

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3583112-ps3_hard_drive_error_or_restore_hard_dri

Be aware that if carefully following the advice from the above link fails to restore your hard drive then you are experiencing a component hardware failure and in this case the hard drive will need to be replaced. However, the steps given at the link are successful in a majority of cases.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Have ide drive have put a new 60gig but cant load new os it finds the cd drive but wont boot from disk have changed bios but still it say ntdlr missing it drivin me nutts.

  1. Computer is booting from a non-bootable source.
  2. Computer hard disk drive is not properly setup in BIOS.
  3. Corrupt NTLDR and/or NTDETECT.COM file.
  4. Misconfiguration with the boot.ini file.
  5. Attempting to upgrade from a Windows computer that is using FAT32.
  6. New hard disk drive being added.
  7. Corrupt boot sector / master boot record.
  8. Seriously corrupted version of Windows.
  9. Loose or Faulty IDE/EIDE hard disk drive cable
  10. .
To Fix
  1. Insert the Windows XP bootable CD into the computer.
  2. When prompted to press any key to boot from the CD, press any key.
  3. Once in the Windows XP setup menu press the "R" key to repair Windows.
  4. Log into your Windows installation by pressing the "1" key and pressing enter.
  5. You will then be prompted for your administrator password, enter that password.
  6. Copy the below two files to the root directory of the primary hard disk. In the below example we are copying these files from the CD-ROM drive letter, which in this case is "e." This letter may be different on your computer.

    copy e:\i386\ntldr c:\
    copy e:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\

  7. Once both of these files have been successfully copied, remove the CD from the computer and reboot

When I switch on my PS3 it says that the hard disk is corrupted and to proceed to press OK. So I pressed OK and it loaded, turned itself off and the system restarted itself. But nothing seems to have...

you already have a corrupted hard disk.the best possible solution for that is to replace it with a new hard disk.corrupted hard disk causes the ps3 to freeze bcoz it cannot the load the data that the ps3 needs to boot properly.hope this one solves the problem
