Question about Akai VS-J200EA VHS VCR

2 Answers

A faulty appliance (refrigerator) caused the power in the whole house to switch off. When power was restored, the VCR (HR-J200EA)would not come back on (no lights seen on front panel). I tried to switch VCR back on but it would not work. What can I do?

From the problem i can understand that there may be high supply of power in this case only by calling the technician you can solve the problem. Remember one thing before repairing try to know the cost because for this type of repair it may cost more than the ordinary one.

above is a generic training manual, this will give you an idea of whats required to service and repair a unit such as this. usually when this happens, it is a Power Supply that has taken, a power spike, surge etc. usually they are cheaply repairable, from you authorised service center, Akai, in your case, ask for a "Quote" before proceeding with any work, that way at least you will get an idea as to weather repair or replace.

Power to ice maker won't turn on

Hello Brenda Landi,

One place I keep running into fuses in old & new refrigerators
is to the ice-maker... on THEIR SCHEMATIC DRAWINGS (USUALLY ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE REFRIERATOR).

( I'm just saying: I actually have yet to find a bad fuse)...

They all have a way to turn them off (power switch)...
Information contained in your owners manual...!!

The most common issue is a chunk of ice will become stuck to the tray or sweep arm and STOP the reset/refill cycle...

Check the operations manual and trouble shooting list... make sure the water is on... and the SWITCH is on BEFORE
hunting for any fuses....

Worst case scenario is the motor head is gone and the whole head needs to be replaced...

Take your make and model (which DID NOT come through with your question) and go onto the various on-line (usa) parts houses for trouble/replacement tips... (UK = "spares suppliers").

Hope this helps...

Power went out. Is there a way to reset it?

If all the power went out in your whole house, then you need to flip the main breaker switch off then back on again. This should restore power.

If only frig went out, then which secondary breaker switch is "triggered" and flip off then back on.

I insert the tape and it stops and the power shuts off. If i turn the power on, it ejects the tape

This sounds like a problem caused by the Mode Switch. These in VCR's can cause all sorts of odd things. The switch can become faulty, or just get dirt in it. The switch tells the electronics of the VCR which position the mechanical parts are in. If the electronics get conflicting information, then it will power down the VCR. Another cause of a good mode switch to give wrong info, is damage to the mechanism. This throws out the timing.
A spray of Servisol Video 40 on the switch will restore a dirty one. The other causes are more tricky. Since the whole thing will need to be set up again in position. This will most likely require the service manual as most VCR's are never set up in the eject mode! After any faulty parts are replaced of course!!!

My vcr will accept a tape and begin to function only when there is no other electrical device plugged into the same circut. If anything is plugged in at the same time the vcr ejects the tape and wont try,...

Weird one! The only thing I can think that would cause that is that the other things reduce the load on the socket so the VCR can't get enough power to function right. Have you had an electrician check the wiring in your house and inparticular that socket? Otherwise I would guess it's a power supply problem on the VCR. It's not the fuse anyway they would just blow causing no power at all!

I NEED TO FIND OUT WHY MY VIDEO TAPE KEEPS EJECTING ITS SELF.

Often this is caused by a faulty mode switch in the VCR. The mode switch tells the microprocessor of the VCR what position the vcr is in, so when it goes wrong the whole system goes wrong!

First power off the unit, then remove the DV's tape housing , power up the unit, and allowed the mechanism to go back to the unload mode, make sure that the tape posts are at unload mode. then unplug the vcr back again, put back the tape's housing in the load position (tape in) power the vcr back on and push eject button to reset tape mechanism.

DVD-VCR Reorder, Model DVD-V5650

Hi.
On the more modern vcrs this problem can be caused by several things, Faulty mode switch, Deck alignment incorrect, reel idler faulty.
I would advise if the machine is only 3mths old it will be still be under warantee so take it back to shop.
