Question about i-mate Ultimate 9502 Cell Phone
I will be using my IMate 9502 with the Telstra Australia Next G network.
I believe that their NextG frequency band is different from that of the rest of the world.
I have the flash upgrade from WM 6.0 to WM 6.1-1.7, but I do not know if it is a Telstra Australia issued upgrade, or from elsewhere. (probably elsewhere)
My concern is that I do not know if a non-Australian WM flash upgrade might change the NextG (3.5G) frequency that the phone uses, ie. I do not know if the next G frequency is a hardware or a software factor.
If it is a software setting, then by upgrading (with an overseas issued flash upgrade) will I render it unable to pick up the unique Australian band nextG? Does anyone know? I don't really want to do it until I find out.
Alternatively, does anyone know if/where a Telstra Australia upgrade flash to WM 6.1 can be obtained from?
The GSM/3G bands are hardcoded in the phone's radio chip, for what you can flash your phone to v1.77 WM6.1 ROM. This ROM was plublished by i-mate back in Nov. '08, and it is the most recent ROM released for the 9502 so far.
You see, the i-mate's Configurator application, which you most probably used with the stock WM6 ROM, will still be there. So, your internet and MMS settings will, most probably, be done automatically after flashing your device. If not, just check Telstra's Help page, or call them, to manually set those data.
Just my 2 cents... Carlos
