How do I replace a pull cord for pm 605 mcculloch chainsaw?

First remove the pull starter housing.
The next part is tricky. You'll have to release and unwind the spring that rewinds the pull starter cord. Remember how you do this because after replacing the cord, you'll have to rewind the cord and spring before inserting it back in the housing.
re-attach the pull cord housing to the chain saw.
Hope this helps.

Hasqvarna mod 55 pull cord will not rewind. How do I repair or replace the spring?

The 55 spring is supplied in a black plastic keeper, its just a matter of removing the centre screw, remove the pulley, the spring is then captive in the keeper, carfully ease out ( always wear saftey glasses ) you can now drop the new spring in.

Can not pull cord all the out to start the saw

Sounds like the pull cord has become trapped round the spool. Remove starter housing and unwind the pull cord manually off the spool. Then wind the cord back on by hand. Be careful because the spool will be under tension from the rewind spring.

VIKI PR-GS5200 - I need to rewind the pull cord so it will work

It maybe the return spring behind the pulley has broken, be very carefull when removing the pulley as the spring can easilt fly out, new springs are in keepers so are very easy to fit.

How do i replace pull string on craftsman 20/14 chainsaw

Remove the cover containing the cord rewind mechanism, untie the cord's knot in the center of the mechanism and remove the old cord by unwinding it from the pulley. Thread the new cord through the hole it goes through on the outside and wind the recoil mechanism so that it has sufficient spring tension to rewind the new cord. Use something appropriate to immobilize the pulley while you thread the cord through the center and tie the knot. Slowly allow the pulley to retract and wind the new cord onto it. Replace the cover. As an aside, sometimes when the cord breaks and the pulley snaps back quickly, the rewind spring can break.

The pull rope will not rewind. How do I reset it?

The cord should be removed from the spool entirely, then wind the spool spring CCW for a number of turns making sure the spool can be turned for about 6 turns more (during start). Wedge the spool so that it can't unwind the spring again. If the old cord was about worn out, replace it with fresh. Melt the cord end somewhat so that the knot won't pull out, then tie an overhand knot in the cord end. Feed it into the inner retainer on the spool, then thread the cord around the spool 5 or 6 times in a CCW direction. Once wound, feed the loose end out of the cord port, slide the pull handle on, melt the cord end, and tie an overhand knot on it. Stuff the knot into the handle and release the wedge from the spool so that spring tension pulls the cord tight. Pull the cord out several times to make sure nothing interferes with cord and mechanism, then install on the saw and check the start operation. The spring should never bind-up when the cord is fully extended. Hope this helps!

How do i get the pull cord spring back in on a

Recoil Spring Rewind
I invert and secure the housing and rewind the spring large coil to small (need eye protection, both hands and no women around work area!). I'm right handed so I tension the spring enough to insert it inside the previous coil while holding what has already been installed with my left about 180° from my right hand. The tension will hold the spring in the housing once completely inserted. Then bend slightly the inner most part to engage the starter spool. It will require about 2 turns of pretension for it to retract properly. HTH

Pull cord stuck in the out position

this can be caused by sevral things inside the pull cord hub assembly. examples: Dirty inside & needs taken apart & cleaned. something logged inside, plastic spool tabs broke, spring/s broke, levers broke or any of these items could just be to worn. replacement parts should be available.
