Acrobat could not communicate to this device - Xerox DOCUMATE 510 Flatbed Scanner

I have the same problem. Acrobat 7.0 works fine, but Acrobat 8.0 crashes. There are work arounds, but they don't work well if you want to use Acrobat's "Scan Both Sides" feature, which reassembles the pages in correct order when scanning is complete.

Acrobat and Canon DR-9080C not working

You are right, it is driver related issue. Acobat 9 has more features that may not be compatible with the existing driver. may be you can use CapturePerfect and directly create PDF and then use the Optimising features of Acrobat 9. Ofcourse you have to do it twice, but you can use the 'batch' process and do it automatically.

Scanner problems

Before you toss the scanner out, try uninstalling the Twain driver for the scanner and re-installing it. Go to Epson.com, select your country, select drivers & support, scanners and choose your scanner. This way, you will get the latest twain driver. If the new driver doesn't work, then the scanner may be toast, but I don't think so.

Acrobat 8.1

Upgrade to Acobat 9.0 Pro. It seems to work in that can scan pages for a document, HOWEVER, adding/appending to already scaned pages for a document seems to crash 9.0. For example, say I scan in pages 1 - 4. I cannot then scan pages 5 -6 as part of the same document--crashes Acrobat.

I think this finally proves the problem is Acrobat 8.0 and NOT the i40 drivers.

This is driving me crazy. what am i doing wrong?

Have you verified that your software is set to the correct source which is your default scanner. I know in some cases with different imaging programs that the software will default to a different device which could be a printer or camera etc. Well, you know for sure that its only occurring within this one program. If all fails you can uninstall/reinstall the program thats in question, hopefully it will refresh are update the proper inf source.
