Hi, I just had a similar problem and figured it out - maybe we have the same problem.
I had dropped the unit in the grass and upon picking it up it wouldn't work. I found that the battery compartment was ever so slightly misaligned from the rest of the unit. I pushed the battery compartment and the unit so it aligned properly and it resumed working.
It was a simple solution for me - hopefully you'll find an easy answer, too.
We have a Black and Decker CST 1000 and other than the convenience of no cord, it constantly has problems. Won't hold a charge, spool holder cap broke and we can't find the part, handle cracked and finally broke. We have a black and decker blower and it won't turn off either. Fortunately it's corded so we can just unplug it. No more Black and Decker for us.
