Removed all wired and reseated ram removed all pci cards, removed ide wire from slave hdd, and still nothing. Note It did sit unused for 7mo. under the desk without any power to it. Could it be cmos battery finially died and needs to be replaced? or something else?

I have tryed these things :-) this pc was my baby i custume built it from board out have tryed all known solutions that i could think of. I at last i do hope the board didn't give out on me. I had to park it (not used) after my crt screen crapped out on me. Worked great until I hooked all back up and pulled in new sceen. Which isn't getting signal.

Hey,
Any computer is going to turn on, with or without the cmos battery. if it runs out you get a message about it, and the time and date settings will not last when the power is turned off.

Lets take the motherboard out from the case and put it on a bench. make sure you connect the 20-24pin main power, 4pin cpu power? (if its old, it might not have this one) Then the CPU, one ram module, and a video card if it does not have a build in video.

The thing is, the power should turn on even if there is no cpu, ram or video on the machine.

Do you have a small speaker attached to the mainboard? do you hear beeps? if you don't have a speaker attached to the board, please obtain one and attach it to the front panel connector header, most likely in the bottom right corner of the motherboard where the power and reset switch connectors and connected, small white text marks the speaker spot.

Now if you get beeping when you turn on, let me know how many long and short, or if it beeps in series (2-4-2-4 for example (that is 2 beeps, pause, 4 beeps, pause, 2 beeps, pause, 4 beeps))

if you don't get any beeping, we might have a fault, take out all the RAM from the machine, try starting up again, does it beep? If it does, try another RAM module, if you get picture, you found the problem. If you don't get picture, the issue is either the CPU or video card.

lastly the issue can be the motherboard.

Let me know once you have gotten this far.

Try another video card if you can, possibly a PCI card if noting else. you can probably find those from a scrap yard or sale, for a dollar or two.

Might want to try another screen as well? All right let me know how it goes.

Your motherboard is manufacturing defective. If the motherboard still under warranty, take it back to the computer shop where you purchase and demand for an exchange.

P4sd socket 478 motherboard is not booting up at all !!!

1st check if the voltage from the plug has correct groung , neutral phase set .then
try a new smps , with minimum 400W output.
before connecting the same.
please remove all the parts out of the cabinet please connect only motherboard and smps and check its getting switched on , if not then your board is burnt you will have to replace it , if there is power indication then connect the RAM and check , if its also fine then connect the rest and try.
all this u have tried and no use , please post me a msg with full detail of your PC configuration , I can try a resolution

Dead compaq laptop, no boot activity

Larnold..Sounding like you need to check the LCD Power Inverter Circuit board.. this is located inside the screen a long rectangular circuit board that sends power to the screen backlight & Display Panel.. Could also be a Bad Backlight.. Try Booting it.. Hold it up to a light and look closely at the screen.. If you see a faint image but no light, it is the Backlight, if Just Black No Activity then its most likely the Power Inverter, OR a Bad Video Card.. You can test the VIDEO by Connecting the laptop to a Computer Monitor or similar with the laptops VGA Serial port.. then Use your function Key and Switch to 2nd Display.....(one of your F keys.. ).. If it Shows up on another screen, Its a Display problem and not the video card... Hope This Helps alittle.. Cheers

I have a Boot Problem with my INTEL P4 3.0Ghz. 800Mhz FSB,1M L2 Cache, Socket 478 CPU

I have experienced something similar with my new Core2Duo processor and a fairly new Socket 775 processor. Troubleshooting it led me to believe the CPU simply wasn't compatible with the motherboard. Although it's a shot in the dark, I suggest that you try out some of the following: - Did you try pulling out the graphics card to see if you got it to POST then? The graphics card or the monitor may need replacing. - Did you remove the RAM? - Are you sure all cables are attached properly? - Try to take out the CPU, talk to a friend with a socket 478 motherboard and replace his CPU with your CPU. Does it work now? If yes, motherboard needs to be replaced.
