Does the music you had on it before you downloaded the new stuff work still?
Try converting the music into Mp3 files, or restoring the id tags if they already are mp3 files (just rename it the same thing and add .mp3 at the end)

If nothing works, reformat your player and then try again.

Is there a write protect switch on the drive?

In Windows XP, right click on "My Computer", choose manage. Go to Disk Management and find the drive in question. right click on the drive for more formatting options.
