The battery on my garmin c340 is dead and when I plug it into a power source it takes at least 5 to 10 minutes to acquire directions and before it only took about a minute. Does a dead battery cause this or do I have another issue ? Thanks for any help

Garmin c340 Street Pilot. When I plug it into car lighter it used to go on automatically. Now I have to push the start button. It comes on briefly, then gets lines on it and blacks out. I have tried it in...

Check to see if your cord has a fuse in it and replace it if it has blown. Sounds like it's not charging and the GPS is automatically shutting off because of a dead battery. You may have to purchase a new cord. Perhaps you can try a cord from one a friend has first? Or maybe carry your GPS into a store that sells them and has demo units you can unplug and plug your in to see if it stays on.

I had the same problem. Found out that the fuse had blown in the power cord. I bought a new fuse from radio shack and have not had the low battery since.

Sounds like the battery is dead. Caused by a blown fuse in your power/charging coard

Will not recharge

These things sit on the dash in blistering heat, and get left in sub-zero weather in the winter. That's extreme for the battery! In addition to the weather, the age of your unit (you didn't mention) may come into play. I have had this happen on two units I have (one at home, one at work). Sounds like the battery is shot. I got two replacements from a company on Ebay. Just type in "c340 replacement battery". If you are handy it's not a big deal. I did not lose my favorites on either unit when I did this.
Another possibility is that the unit is not getting charged. I would check to see if when it is plugged in you get the screen message that that is occurring. You might not be getting a good connection somewhere from the 12v lighter socket to the cradle it sits in. There is a small fuse inside the tip of the plug. Hope some of this helps.

Dead Garmin StreetPilot c340

The battery usually has a small charge when arriving from the factory, but it can die before it is received. You should charge this by plugging it into the car or the computer.

Garmin c340 went black and can't get it working

The battery was completely dead. I must not have had the cord plugged in to my lighter, or maybe it wasn't sitting properly on the cradle, and it was running on battery power. I found that when I charged it by the computer, it was ok. It is working with no problems, now.

Internal battery won't charge

Common issue. Steps to troubleshoot/solve:
1. Pull off face, press reset tab.
2. If unit wont turn on or if turns off immediately, connect to home computer using mini usb on side of gps (any usb cord that fits will do). This will charge the internal gps battery, which is discharged.
3. You will not be able to see the gps charge indicator while the usb cord is plugged into the unit. To check charge level, disconnect it, turn it on, and note the large "battery" icon.
4 Do you have a dead internal battery? If the gps holds a charge from your computer usb port, you don't.
5. If you have a dead battery, Google DIY replacement. With some soldering it can done for $15 total.
6. If you don't have a dead battery, the issue is charging from the cigarette lighter socket. Your car socket may have blown a fuse (check car manual). Your charger unit may have blown a fuse (unscrew the tip, check fuse inside). Also, some car sockets don't work when the ignition is off. Test yours.
7. There is a good chance the connection of the charger wire to the gps cradle is the problem. Fiddle with that. Replacement cradles are available for the c340 at about $25.
8. If your unit is not charging from the cradle/socket, buy a 12v usb cord. Plug into socket and into usb port of the gps. This is a workaround or alternative to buying a new cradle.
9. IMPORTANT: observe the "battery" icon while driving, esp. if you have doubts about charging. Basically, if you can see the icon, you're not connected to an outside (car or computer) power source. That is, if you can see the battery-charge indication, it means your battery is currently discharging and unless you get another power source to work it will be dead in a few hours.

I had the same problem recently... What I did was open the front casing and hit the reset button under the cover, then it turned on while plugged into the car adapter.
