Make sure that the modem is directly connected to your computer then on your computer, go to start menu, click on all programs the accessories. Look for command prompt. A black screen will appear, on the black screen type in ipconfig then press enter. There will be a list look for default gateway. Whatever you can see on the default gateway. That is the one you need to type in in the internet explorer address bar.

Wireless Router showing as connected, but cannot access Internet.

You have _THREE_ separate network connections to check:

1. your router, through your ADSL modem, to your ISP;

2. your computer, through an Ethernet cable, to your router;

3. your computer, through its wireless adapter, to the wireless adapter in your router.

So:

1. Connect the Ethernet cable from your laptop directly to your ADSL modem, bypassing the router.
Turn the router off.
Restart the modem.
Restart the computer.
Click Start
Click Run
Enter CMD and press ENTER
Enter IPCONFIG and press ENTER
You should get output like:
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
* IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 123.456.789.249
* Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 123.456.789.1
* Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Enter PING 123.456.789.1 and press ENTER
If PING does not respond, then telephone your ISP, and get them to trouble-shoot your connection.

2. Turn off the ADSL modem.
Connect the Ethernet cable from your laptop to one of the LAN ports on the router.
Turn the router on.
Restart your computer.
Click Start
Click Run
Enter CMD and press ENTER
Enter IPCONFIG and press ENTER
You should get output like:
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
* IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.100
* Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
* Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Enter PING 192.168.0.1 and press ENTER
If PING does not respond, then your router is not working.
If PING does respond, connect another Ethernet cable from the WAN port on the router to the ADSL modem.
Turn the modem on, and wait until the flashing-lights on the modem, and on the router, settle-down to a steady pattern.
Type PING WWW.GOOGLE.COM and press ENTER.
If PING responds, then everything is fine.

3. If you fix #1 and #2, above, then your wireless adapter should work.

I have d-link 560e modem and i want at command to disable line hangup inorder to open other application after the connection is up

If the software that you are using with the modem does not have the ability to set the modem to autoanswer you will need to configure the modem manually. You will have to use Hyperterminal to enter the command into the modem's memory.
(if you do not have Hyperterminal installed please add it by going to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Windows Setup > Communications > Details...)

Have the modem connected to your computer and ensure that it is working fine. Go to:
Start > Programs > Accessories > [Communications] > Hyperterminal .... Hyperterm.exe > name the connection "modem" > Connect Using... Select COM3 or COM4 (on whichever port the modem was assigned to) > Bits per second 9600 > OK.
After that try typing ATZ command and press ENTER (you may not see what you are typing). The response from the modem should be OK.
Apply the following command:

ATS0=3

Now write the new settings into the modem's memory by typing the following command and pressing Enter:

AT&W

The response should be "OK"
The modem will now be set to auto-answer after 3 rings.

Cannot connect to remote Microsoft VPN

Hello, some ISPs require someone to manually/staticly assign a default gateway for a router. With computer connected directly to ISP modem, if using Win XP click start, run and enter "cmd". This will bring up a black text box(CLI). at the prompt> enter ipconfig and click enter. This will show the computers IP address Subnet mask and default gateway. You will need to connect the modem to router to computer. If you haven't changed default settings, From browser enter 192.168.1.1 in window. Enter. This will open router settings. Username and password will be "admin". It may require admin for either or both. You may have a Initial set up link. From here you'll need to enter Default gateway address to access the modem and internet. Hope this helps
