SOURCE: Agitator Dogs

To disassemble, you need to destroy the tabs that are holding the translucent thing to the four post on top of the bottom part. This of course means that the translucent thing needs to be replaced too. I hammered the screwdriver into the tabs until they gave way. The rest of teh parts come out undamaged.

(if you have snips with really long handles, that would be a better tool).

Under the agitator you have what is called (agitating dogs). The agitator will have to be removed. The top should spin off, you will be able to look down into the agitator and see a bolt. Remove this bolt and the agitator can be pulled out. The agitators are small pieces of plastic with small teeth. These teeth get worn out over time or if the washer is overloaded. When the agitator free spins one way the teeth grab a (gear) on agitator and this is how you get the washing action (agitating). These dogs are easy to replace and cost about $5. Re Kenmore Model 110, need to replace the 4 ''dogs'' in top part of agitator. Top of agitator won't come off. Suggestions?

Remove the center bolt. Pull the agitator out and turn it upside down and the cam and dogs will drop out in your hand. Use a strap under the agitator for leverage if it seems stuck, .

Agitator does minimal agitation

Hi Omni,
The Agitator "dogs"/cams have given up the ghost and need to be replaced. Access to them is easy. Before starting the repair, have this part in hand.

Here's a tool list;
1.) small flat screwdriver (to remove the top part of the agitator)
2.) 3/8" ratchet
3.) 8" X 3/8" extension (for the ratchet)
4.) 7/16" socket

Take a gander at this pic... you'll be going after #10 'cause that's the problem.

All you gotta do is remove the top parts from the agitator to access it. See #2 in the diagram? That's the bolt holding the agitator to the transmission shaft. Remove that, then lift the whole agitator out of the tub. Now place the agitator on the floor and put both of your feet on the base. Now lift the agitator (#3) off the base (#4). Place one of your hands into the opening of the top of the agitator (to hold the cam (#9) in place) then turn the agitator over. The cam will slide right out.

Now you'll see the cam "dogs"... little white curved plastic doo-hickeys. All you gotta do now is install the new cam assy. and rebuild the agitator! Cool, huh? All it takes is about $15 bucks in parts and ~20 minutes.

Let me know if you have further questions. And don't forget to rate my solution as "FixYa"! Thanks, BB

Mixing center spindle won't aggitate

Your agitator dogs are worn out.
Remove the agitator and replace the 4 little rubber dogs.
Snap the top off. Remove the bolt inside. Pull up on the top part and access the dogs.

Top agitator not working properly

Check the agitator by turning it back and forth. It should work like a ratchet (turns one way, locks the other way).If you're able to turn it in both directions, the agitator dogs are worn and need to be replaced. To do this remove the agitator cap and the bolt that holds down the agitator. With the bolt out you can remove the top section of the agitator (auger) where you should see 4 small white or beige plastic gears (dogs). Replace those and it should be ok.

Spin cycle with agitation motion occurring simultaneously

Hi again,

Appreciate the "Ask Me".

I believe the dampness is due to slow spin speed as you also have concluded. And I suspect that partial winding of the motor is the culprit. Hence, replacement is in order.

As to your concern why the agitator also operate during the spin setting, it could possibly be stuck or locked agitator dogs. Agitator dogs function is better explained here by another FixYa member, jsrock516.

Cheers.

We have a modle # LLR7144DQ0 - the agitator is not working properly. It is not pulling the clothes down into the water.

The agitator 'dog ears' have worn out. Very easy to replace.
  • Remove fabric softener or protective cap on top of agitator
  • Remove center bolt securing agitator.
  • Lift out agitator and replace dog ears.

Kenmore 8series washer

to remove the trans you have to remove the agitator, lift off cap on agitator there will be i believe a 5/16 or 7/16 bolt remove that carefully because dog ears right at top will fall out, slide out agitator and tran should come out.
