Dryer will not work but i can hear the motor running

if you can hear the motor running then probably the belt is either too loose and/or broken (you may hear a rubbing or squeeling sound).....if you cant hear the motor running then it may be burned out....a very acidy smell.

Either problem requires taking the dryer apart to fix (new belt or new motor)

not much to go on here, but if you hear anything that sounds like a motor running, then I would suspect a broken belt. There is a belt that actually runs around the drum that makes it turn. If you don't hear a motor running then you need to check your controls and cable(with a volt meter(just start at the motor and work your way back).If you hear a motor then its probably the belt that gos around the drum and motor( a little tricky to replace but not hard)

The motor centrifugal switch is not switching from the start winding to the run winding. The switch should stay in the run winding when the motor picks up speed unless power to the motor is interrupted or cut off. The switch is replaceable on most dryer models but sometimes it is an integral or built-in part of the dryer motor and failure of the switch requires the replacement of the motor. Indicate the exact model number of the dryer for more accurate troubleshooting and repair advice.

Can you hear the motor running? If so, you need to replace the drive belt. If you can't hear the motor running, you will need to get a schematic from the Sears/Kenmore website and check for voltage inside the cabinet. You could also buy another used dryer for $100. This route is certainly cheaper than paying for a service call and repair.

Yes the motor will run with or without the belt. The blower discharging air out of the back of will still work,
as well.

I also have this problem, but it is after the dryer has been running. When the motor is hot, it buzzes and will not run. Sometimes it will run if I turn the drum or take some clothes out. I disassembled the dryer and cleaned the motor of lint. This helped but not completely solved the issue. I have completely removed the motor and will thoroughly clean the motor (stator and brushes) and will try again.

If you can hear the motor running but the drum is not turning, the belt maybe slipping or broken.

If you cannot hear the motor running then the door switch is not engaged or the motor is disconnected or dead (not too likely).

well i would have to say you have a broken belt
start the dryerf and put your ear on it
you may be able to hear the motor running

If you can hear the motor running when it is turned on then you dryer needs a new belt. If you cannot hear the motor running it needs a new motor.

sometimes as a timer gets older the timer motor will get a little loud. timer motors run even when the door is open. if the timer advances to off and everything works fine you don't need to worry about it.
