Adapt sata hard drive to a Gateway MX3225 ata/ide lap top

I haven't heard about anyone doing it without a technical education in computer science.
It is not like you can buy a transformer cable for it. Are the sata drive from another laptop or a desktop model?
Because if it is from a desktop model you never will get it to fit anyway.

I dont have a hard drive, can i use any hard drive

I looked up the specs on that device. See below. The specs call for IDE. You will only be able to use an IDE harddrive drive. You can pick IDE drives up pretty cheap from TigerDirect, Amazon, NewEgg or most local tech computer/tech stores.

I have Gateway T-Series W350A Windows Vista Home Premium Japanese model. I would like to increase hard disk space for Windows 7. Can I uprade the hard disk?

Yes you can upgrade the hard drive.

You just need to pull it out and find if it is a SATA or an IDE

SATA has slots and IDE has pins.

How do i change my sata controller to use ide?

Buy an IDE controller. Then install it.

OR

Buy a SATA hard drive and install it. SATA drives are faster. If you need to get data from your IDE drive to a new SATA drive, try using a IDE slave cable. These connect an IDE drive to one of your USB ports and allows you to use the drive just like an external hard drive or USB thumb drive. Pretty cool stuff. Have fun.

Installing secondary hard drive in a gateway 5310s

in most new cases there are extra slots for extra hard drives, but as long as the ide or sata is hooked up it should work, and you can buy hardware and rig up something ,ive tested many hard drives without hooking up hardware,
the components on the hard drive should not touch other metal

Switching out a hard drive for a Gateway M675

What you're looking for is an IDE PATA (UDMA/100) drive, you can however use a SATA to IDE adapter if you want to use the SATA drive. Most likely you'll have to get a power adapter cord for the SATA drive also as your machine's power supply probably doesn't have one. You're going to be better off just using an IDE drive.

Here's a link to ebay auctions for these types of hard drives
.

Note: The auctions I've linked to are not mine they are for illustrative purposes only.

Not really sure about "flogs"? .... but I think you bought a SATA drive instead of an IDE drive?

Yes you can get adaptors ... here's one supplier if found through Google: http://www.8starshop.com/en/ide-to-sata-serial-ata-bilateral-hdd-converter-adapter.html?language=en&currency=GBP

Connecting new hard drive

If the old one is still conected you can connect it the same way if not here is how to::

Well firstly they are 2 types IDE (large connector) and SATA (small connector)

IDE

of an ide cable has 3 jacks 1 for the main board and 2 for IDE drives
2 drive must be set to master and the other to slave
Set the drives by using the jumper on the back the instructions are written on the drives
Connect the Ide Cable and then the power and turn you system on

IF ITS SATA
connect the sata cable to both hard drive and main board
connect the power cable and your done!!

NB:: sata ports are labeled SATA 1 SATA 2 etc

IDE are LABELED IDE 1 IDE 2

Ide is a large grey cable black connector SATA is usually orange or red and small
