How do I replace the blade? I have undone the centre bolt but can't get it out because the guard is in the way. I have tried to undo the 2 screws on the left side of the guard to remove it but can't budge them.

My problem is not with a chain saw, it is a Bosch GCM 10 mitre saw.

Are you looking to remove the chain - or chain guide bar?

Thanks!!

Neither. It is not a chain saw. I don't know how we got into the chaonsaw section. The saw is a Bosch 10 inch professional mitre saw or portable table saw. Apart from all that I have finally been able to change the blade after "releasing" the blade guard to gain clear access to the blade retaining bolt.

Thanks for your follow up question.

    Regards Vic.

The chain guard comes off with the bolt, usually, should be 2 of them. But you get the guard off , the bar will be loose, pull it into the saw, pull the chain out, carefully, so it don't get all twisted up, put in the new chain, make sure it rides in the drive sprocket and not the clutch, put on the bar, get the chain around it, pull the bar out tight, and put on the cover and tighten up the bolt, That is how most chain saws work, might be a little difference here and there, but that is the basic, yours should follow those lines too. Hope this helps.

Well why didn't you say so? I was wondering why you were calling a chain a blade. Ok, back to the chop saw, You don't have to take the guard off, Just lift it up and hold it out of the way of the blade. Once you start the blade down in the cutting action, the guard can be lifted up. Tilt the blade out bottom left, (only way) you should be all set. This should make more sense.

I have been able to replace the blade in my saw. It was necessary to loosen one of the screws that retain the saw guard thus letting it spring back (upwards) allowing the centre blade retaining bolt to be removed. The bolt could not be removed or screwed out sufficiently to release the blade without the "moving" of the guard.

You can put this information in your memory for the next person who needs help replacing the blde on their Bosch 10 inch professional drop or table saw.

    Regards Vic.

Well Vic, Thanks for the update on your saw. I will keep in mind that it is a professional saw that is impossible to figure out, especially when it is listed under chain saws. I have 4 miter saws in my shop and not one of them is the same, and none of them have to have the guard removed to change the blade. When I answer a question , I go to general info, From experience. I may not have all the answers, But I do have 35 years experience in the woodworking field. I answer these questions for fun and try to help people out, that's all. Sorry I didn't get yours right.

I wasn't attempting to critise you or your attemts to assist me, just trying to give you some info that you may be able to use. I was able to finally locate the manual that came with the saw but as you have stated there are some many different saws and nearly all have different construction so much so that the diagrams and instruction in my book were different, albeit slightly, to the saw.

Thanks for your attempts to assist.

    Regards Vic.

How to I fix a Ryobi Miter Saw Blade Guard which is not retracting?

Sound like a piece of wood may have driven the arm up which operates the guard, if you remove the screws holding the guard support plate to the saw you should be able to remove the guard assembly, the arm can then be re-bent down on the end so that it meets the angled plate on the back of the guard and pushes the guard through the entire stroke, the other reason could be a damaged guard, when the centre screw is removed the plates can be removed from the guard, note how the spring and plates are assembled prior to dismantling, check the inside centre of the perspex guard and ensure the 4 protrusions which engage with the drive plate haven't broken off, if sow the guard will need to be replaced, this may now be an obsolete part , if so purchase a Makita guard as they are the same

Most balancers will wiggle off (pull & wiggle) you will need the big centre bolt undone & if 4 small bolts around balancer undo those to cause they are probably bolted to the crank gear.

Can't find my owners manual. How do I change the blade. Bolt hits on a guard that covers the arbor. On a DW713 combination saw.

Removing the Blade
1. Unplug the saw.
2. Raise the arm to the upper position and raise the lower guard as far as possible.
3. Loosen, but do not remove guard bracket screw until the bracket can be raised far
enough to access the blade screw. Lower guard will remain raised due to the position
of the guard bracket screw.
4. Depress the spindle lock button (Fig. 3) while carefully rotating the saw blade by hand
until the lock engages
5. Keeping the button depressed, use the other hand and
the wrench provided to loosen the blade screw. (Turn
clockwise, left-hand threads.)
6. Remove the blade screw, outer blade clamp, and
blade. The inner blade clamp may be left on the
spindle.
Installing a Blade
1. Unplug the saw.
2. With the arm raised, the lower guard held open and the
guard bracket, place the blade on the spindle against
the inner blade clamp with the teeth at the bottom of
the blade pointing toward the back of the saw.
3. Assemble the outer blade clamp onto the spindle.
4. Install the blade screw and, engaging the spindle lock,
tighten the screw firmly with wrench provided. (Turn
counterclockwise, left-hand threads.)
5. Return the guard bracket to its original position and
firmly tighten the guard bracket screw to hold bracket
in place.
WARNING:
• The guard bracket must be returned
to its original position and the
screw tightened before activating
the saw.
• Failure to do so may allow the guard
to contact the spinning saw blade
resulting in damage to the saw and
severe personal injury

Need to replace ignition switch

Remove steering wheel ( phillips screws to remove horn, 19mm nut in centre), remove shrouds over column( phillips screws) , remove shroud above footwell ( the one that covers the fuse box etc , phillips screws again) undo the column and let it drop down ( 12mm head bolts up from underneath, directly below speedo )
You will see that the ignition switch/ steering lock is a grey casting held in by shiny bolts with no heads.
The easiest way to remove is to use a hacksaw and cut slots in the top of the bolts so that you can insert a flat bladed screwdriver and undo them ( this will involve cutting the casting as well, only cut enough to slot the bolts, don't cut the casting in half ! )
Some people prefer to use a pin punch and a hammer to tap the bolts around till the come loose, the choice is yours!
The loom is held into the lock mechanism by one phillips head bolt , undo this and remove the switch.
You are now ready to install your replacement lock.
Just repeat steps in reverse, make sure the lock part of the barrel sits neatly in the hole in the column before you tighten the bolts ( using the slots you cut earlier and a screwdriver.)
There may be slight differences as I am used to right hand drive corollas but my experience is that most things are generic.

I have tried numerous times to undo a nut on my Black and Decker circular saw without success. which way do I turn the nut to undo it and take the circular saw blade?

Am I correct that this is a hand-held saw? Want to make sure of the terminology.

If so, the bolt holding the blade has right hand threads -- meaning it loosens by turning counter-clockwise.

Is there a blade lock? Are you using it?

Change blade

OK first raise the cutting head. Loosen the screw that holds the guard in place and move out of the way. Find the spindle lock on the right hand side of the gearcase and turn blade by hand (UNPLUG SAW FIRST) until it locks. With the wrench supplied with saw put it on the blade bolt and turn it clockwise to loosen, it has left hand threads, remove outer flange and blade. Let me know it you need any more help
