    Thanks for your response.

Output from cable tuner (hathway) is coaxial (one yellow video cable) one where the output from Denon is component. Component output is expected to be better than coaxial one. Hence the upconversion will improve the video quality..

Thanks for update and your time.

One correction from my side. I have 1708 and not 1508.

Problem is, this upconversion was working earlier but not working now. Now I have connected hathway composite video output to AV of my Samsung LCD. It works. However, this restricts if I have another device say Nintendo V , to connect to LCD as number of AV ports are limited. Earlier, denon was doing this , multiple input one output to TV. Incidentally, even Nintendo V is not producing video output just like hathway.

Fundamentally, problem remains. Interconnect is not working. Not sure how to resolve this. I am missing something. Or some configuration issue in 1708 or probably MONITOR component port of 1708 has gone bad.

Hello FixYa customer, I understand that you're using component out from the cable box to the component in of the Denon, and then component out to the monitor, but you are not getting the video. Is that correct? Is this a new setup, or did it recenetly stop working? Thanks

If the "Video Convert" is enabled in steps 11-14 in the "Input Setup" menu, and you still do not get the upconversion, then either the Denon upcovert is faulty, the TV is set on an incomaptible resolution (this would be unusual), or the component input on the TV is faulty.

Eliminate the TV by verfiying the component input directly to the TV from one of your sources, if that works, and the resoluition can be changed at the source and dsiplayed on the TV , then the issue is with the UPConversion or monitor output of the 1708.

Thank you for using FixYa

Coax-2 is audio. Where's the video from the cable tuner coming into the Denon?

Why don you need the cable to pass video through the Denon on iuts way to the TV anyway? Interconnnects rarely add value.

Composite is on the single Yellow (though technically it is a physical coaxial RCA cable it is not customarily called 'coaxial' in this context) and is the lowest quality video in this machine's pecking order. You couldn't make it any better simply by converting the protocol. All analog conversions lose something in the translation. The old saying goes GIGO. Garbage In = Garbage Out.

I don't see anything documenting any kind of video uptick. In fact I saw one user review that compalined because it didn't have it.

    Page 11 in the manual:

"AVR-1508's S-Video connectors (input and output) and video connectors (inout and output) have independent circuit structures, so that video signals from the S-Video connectors are only from the S-Video connector outputs and video signals input fomr the pin conenctors are only output from the pin connectors."

I'd look for a better cable box video output (component or HDMI).

BTW: digital cable doesn't mean HD. It could still be max 480i. Consult with Hathway on that.

I'm trying to connect a Samsung HD LCD tv to a Denon AVR1508 receiver using HDMI cable so that the TV sound comes thru the receiver/speakers. which jack do I use (on both the tv and the receiver,

connect the hdmi to the tv (hdmi input 1) and to the receiver (hdmi output) you must make sure that the receiver input settings are assigned correctly. Then hook up all of your devices to the receiver. remember that the 1508 dosent do hdmi upconversion, so if you have any devices that are NOT hdmi, you need to run rca cables from the output of you receiver to the input of your tv. If you have any digital inputs coming out of your devices, i would recommend using them. your 1508 has two inputs that are assignable.
If all of your devices are hooked up to your receiver, and its hooked up to your tv properly, just turn down the sound on your tv, and turn up the volume on your denon!

WHAT TYPE OF AUDIO CONNECTION IS USED FRON THE SAT TO THE DENON? IT HAS BEEN MY EXPERIENCE THAT YOU MUST CHECK THE OUT PUT FORMAT OF THE SAT OR EVEN USE A COAXIAL OR OPTICAL CABLE AND ON THE FRONT OF THE DENON PRESS THE INPUT MODE BUTTON TO DISPLAY AUTO

Lost picture on my AVR-2807

There is a video select button on the receiver. Press it and it toggles through all of the video sources. Keep pressing it until the display says video=source.

No Picture on Mitsubishi v45605 rear projection tv

If it works the way you have it setup now, leave that way. Plug all your video sources to the denon if possible and leave it that way.
If the denon has the feature to change channels like a cable converter then you can use it or if you still have a VCR you can also use it as a tuner just to tune the cable channels and use the audio/video outputs from it to the TV or denon receiver.
The tuner might not even be available anymore and if it's, is expensive.
Good Luck.

Denon AVR1602

I know the avr 1602 well....What exactly do you mean "I have my TV cable service wired to the Denon".....Do you mean the actual co-ax cable ?....

The denon is only able to switch raw video and audio signals.

What do I mean by that ?....IF you are running your co-ax cable from your cable company directly into the back of the denon, it won't work. The Denon has an AM-FM tuner, but not a video tuner ( channels 1-121)....If this is what you are doing, then you want to run it to your samsung first ( as long as the samsung has a tuner so you can change channels ).

If the samsung operates like an old VCR, whereby you can plug the cable company co-ax cable into the back of it, and change channels with the samsung, then that is what you must do. You would then hook up the OUTPUTS of the samsing to the VCR or DVD inputs on the Denon receiver. ( use DVD inputs on the denon if the samsung has optical audio out, and use an optical cable as well for better sound ).

You would then use the Denon for the sound, and hook up your TV to the Monitor out jack on the back of the Denon.

The Denon is like a big switchbox. You plug your DVD, VCR, Satellite, video game, or what-have-you into the Denon. Then you use the denon to route the signal to your TV for the picture, and the denon takes care of the sound.

Hope this helps, and remember to always follow your owners manual.......Rob

How to connect using a LCD monitor, cable box, DVD player

You won't need the VCR, that's only used for a cable box, and since you have one now there is no need. You'll want to connect everything with the better video plugin possible. Composite (red, white, yellow) is the worst, then s-video, then component (red, blue, green), then DVI, then HDMI. That will square your video. Then send all audio signals to the Denon. These cables are usually the red and white cables. OR Plug everything into the Denon to the appropriate input. Then connect the monitor to the video out of the Denon.
