Have replaced motor brushes & now popping sound when running, with sparks seen in filter housing. Please advise.

The armature is bad, you need to replace the whole motor. IF the armature has worn down where the brushes contact it, then it is continuously shorting out when it runs.

Vacuum just quit, while in use

If the Power from the wall receptacle was OK, and you did not trip a circuit breaker, then the motor may have shut down or the on/off switch broke. Usually your house power would go out if a short circuit occurred while plugged into the house current. Check all wires, and smell the housing for any burn odor. Look at the brush for accumulated matter that collected and stopped the motor and brush from moving. Clean if necessary.

New bag indicator will not reset causing bare floor mode not to work at all and mode 2 not to vacuum dirt properly

Your top motor (suction motor) isn't running. Your vacuum has two motors in it. The top motor is the suction motor that runs on the first switch position and the bottom motor (brush motor) turns on with the second possition.
It could be the switch. If it isn't the switch, the only other thing it could be is the motor itself.
To check the switch, unplug the vacuum and then take the three screws out of the back of the handle. If you are comfortable with electricity, jump the black wire and the blue wire togeather and plug the vacuum into a electrical outlet. If the motor dosen't run, the problem is with the motor. If the motor runs, the switch is bad and needs to be replaced. You can get one at most any vacuum shop.
The motor could be bad or the carbon brushes can be stuck with dust. This is more involved and I recomend taking the vacuum to a vac shop that works on the "old" Electrolux vacuums. The new name for the "old" Electrolux is now Aerus Lux but you would probably get it repaired less expensively at another vacuum shop.
If you want to go into the motor housing you'll have to take the big screw out of the back of the handle and pull up on the handle to remove it. Next, remove the four screws holding the top half (motor housing) of the vacuum. Two screws on the back and two screws to the front inside of the bag housing. You'll need a long #2 phillips screw driver. Then pull up on the bag housing with a side to side motion.
With the housing removed, you will see the motor and can lift it out.
Check for any bad winding. You can smell them to check if you can't tell by looking at them. If they are burned, you will need to replace the motor.
To check the brushes, you will need a 5/16th" socket to remove the two bolts on the top of the motor and lift the top bracket with the carbon brushes off and see if the brushes move freely. If not moving or not long enough to touch the top part of the motor with the copper bars (the comutator) it would be best to replace the motor.
To reassemble the vac just reverse.
This is a long and difficult prosedure and I reccomend that you take the vacuum to a repair shop that works on the Electrolux.

Electrolux Vacuum Cleaner Epic series 3500SR: The motor runs but not at full power and then quits then will start again.

Check the piece of flex hose between the vacuum body and the power nozzle. This will sometimes get a blockage in it, causing varying motor speeds.
You can remove the tube by grasping it firmly and pulling from the power nozzle. Then twist clockwise to remove it from the vacuum body. Clear blockage with a wooden spoon handle or similar blunt object. Insert tube into body and twist counter-clockwise until tight. Insert other end into power nozzle about an inch, or until it stops.

Another thing to check is the foam filter at the bottom of the bag well. Remove and replace if necessary. If a new one is unavailable, the vacuum can be used until you get a new one. Or rinse the old one out and allow to thorougly air dry before using. Also check the screen covering the motor intake and clean if needed.

Also, if your machine is fitted with a afterfilter on the lower side of the tank, this may need to be removed if dirty.

Beaters stop when vaccuming rug...didn't when new

I believe you need to change the belt that drives the brushes. When it gets stretched out, it will just spin on the axle of the motor or spin on the brush and smoke.

Rainbow stops shortly after starting to vacuum

There is a thermal fuse on the motor field that sometimes fails. Sometimes the fuse does what it is supposed to do - prevents motor from overheating.
Causes:
a) Improperly worn motor brushes
b) bad motor bearings (that usually leads to uneven motor brush wear)
c) very dirty cooling air filter

To access filter and the motor - use small flat screwdriver to remove clear side panels. You will see 4 or 6 Phillips screws. Remove screws - cap will come off.

Good Luck,
Rocky

Try running th roomba with the dust bin removed to see if the main brush is turning, if not it could be an issue with the gears being stripped in the brush motor assembly or inside the brush compartment holder. If the gears are fine the brush motor itself may be blown. A new one is about $30.00.
