Question about Tricity Bendix WDR1040W Front Load Washer / Dryer

2 Answers

Hi, I have a bendix combo washer/drier WD1054. It's been working fine - until I inadvertently left the drier function on when doing a (too) full load. I got it to stop after a bit and thought all was OK. But since then, the drier function won;t work and nor will the spin cycle work. Otherwise washes OK and makes no abnormal noises. Can anyone advise please.

Hello,

Welcome to Fixya.

I`m not entirely sure if the component I`m thinking of usually has any effect on the spin, but it could be I just don`t remember. Anyway the thing I would direct you to look for is a thermal fuse.

All these unit`s ( Bendix, Kariba, Splendid, Equator etc. ) have at least one on the heater/condensor housing ( have to remove the top ) while some of the older unit`s have two.

**Safety first...turn off your breaker at the service panel preferably or unplug the unit first**

Remove the top and identify on the condensor housing the thermal fuse **see image below** and with a multimeter ohm it out.

This is not the actual bendix thermal fuse, just an image of what it will look like. I don`t even know where to get parts anymore, I used to get them from a gentleman in Calgary, Alberta, Canada by the name of **** Blanchard, but I no longer have contact info for him and I rarely work on these any longer.

If this fuse is open the heater will not function but it may also be tied into the spin cycle, but I don`t think so to my memory, unless it has the second fuse located on the harness going to the motor.

You`ll need to remove the back panel as well to trace the harness to locate the second fuse...if present at all, but the fuse used to be located near the motor at the connections.

Let me know how you make out, I`ll watch for your reply in this post.

good luck.

I found the motors commutator arcing due to previous leak from inlet solenoid/detergent tray area, causing the control board to shut down the motor after a short run, I had a spare machine so swapped out the motor and now it runs fine...now to locate that leak!

Thor washer/dryer combo not drying properly. What is capacity of machine?

Whilst 'combos' will 'wash' a full load of clothes, they are not so good at 'drying' a full load. Since there must be a 'tumbling space' inside of the drum, into which the clothes can fall during the drying cycle.
In a 'nutshell' one 'wash load' equals 'two drying loads',
That's the price you pay for having a space saving 'combo' machine instead of having a 'washing AND a drying machine.
Add to that the fact that most 'combos' are 'condenser driers', as opposed to 'free flow outlet driers',
.
The consequence is that it takes far longer to 'wash and dry' a load of clothes in a 'combi' as oppose to two separate machines

Washer filled with water then stopped working, still full of water. Drier works just fine. Happened durring an electrical short in my house, but the fuse that was blown was not linked to the same part of...

Hi,
You state you had a short in the home. Since the washer is on 110V system, you can try a different outlet and see if the machine works. Although you state that it isn't on the same part of the panel as the washer/dryer, and the dryer works, the dryer is on a different breaker, and it may indeed have had some effect on the panel that hooks to the washer. Try my first option, and let me know how you make out. I believe you'll find that to be the trouble

I can not figure out how to get this machine to dry. I was told it was a combo machine that both washed and dried. Does it really dry and how?

I will be glad to help you. Can you please post the make and model number of your machine so I may provide you the proper information?

I own a bendix combo 1043 m. thewasher works fine, but the spinning do not.what can i do or what are i doing wrong. rufusdk@shaw.ca phone 1-250-749-3849 thank you. kurt combo washer and dryer

our 1043 M would not spin either until the spring / balance was replaced in the back. It is plastic O ring. We made it a copper O ring and now it works like a charm. We just need the manual so we know which spot to put the soap in and which to put the fabric softener in etc.

Prolem drying clothes

I just contacted Samsung Tech Support for my wash/dryer combo WD-J1255C.
The reply.."it is not a full dryer ...and it is not sold as a full drier.. and don't expect it to be completely dry". I queried why it is advertised as a dryer and got the same reply.
Its a great washer but why did I pay extra for the dryer combo?

WDB1043M Bendix Washer/Dryer

I had the same problem. Then I discovered that the Bendix USA WDS1043 / WDC1024 is the same, or almost the same, as a Splendide Comb-o-matic 6000. You can find an extensive parts manual at
http://www.splendide.com/service/Combo_PartsBreakDown.pdf
and an owners manual at http://www.splendide.com/manual_wdc1024m.pdf

I think Splendide is still in business, in which case they may also be able to supply parts for the Bendix WDS 1043 M - check them out at
http://www.splendide.com/

They can also supply a replacement washer/dryer combo when your present unit finally dies.

Good luck with a great washer combo!

all you have to do is:
select half load
set drier timer to required time. set main timer to dry program

i suspect you are not pressing half load button - this is essential
