Poulan gas string trimmer model p1500 carb adjustment help

Carb running lean need to know which screw is idle and which is high speed poulan p1500 I have ordered special tool from E Bay .
The screws are cone shaped splined and require special tool.
There is a left and right screw and I need to know which is which and also if possible how many turns out from all the way turned in position .
Like 1 !/2 turns out etc. Manufacturer want me to take it to dealer.
But as you know a person may have to tweak a little now and then and I do not want to drive 65 miles to have a service shop do this.
My last weedeater had instuctions on how to adjust and which screw was which. Called dealer and they said EPA does not want consumer to adjust and maybe run to rich etc. and pollute the air. Any help will be appreciated. Chuck

SOURCE: Poulan model: PPB430VS leaf blower. Won't start.

I think that those are suppose to be caps over the screw to discourage inadvertant tinkering with it. That way it is a deliberate act to get to them, if it is what I think it is.

SOURCE: adjust high low screws on carb.

I found one at my local parts store (they also work on them) for $5. It looks like a screwdriver with a special tip on it.........

SOURCE: Hello I'm fixing my poulan pro ppb200 gas

My service center told me that they are allowed only 2 of these adjuster per year. It has to do with the air quality issue. They don't want back-yard fixer-uppers to pollute the place up. True store - I could not believe it.

The BLUE wire-splice connector, the one that you crimp after you put a wire in each end, is supposed to fit snug around those screws and allow you to adjust them. However I could not get it to work.

If you take a hack saw and cut the lip from around the adjuster screws and then cut a slot in the adjuster screws themselves, you will be able to set those screws with a flat-head screwdriver.

The whole operation takes about 9 pushes of the hacksaw. The lip is aluminum and the set screws are a very soft steel.

Good luck

What would be wrong with my trimmer if it idles good but wants to die when i try to accelerate

It either needs the L mixture screw adjusted (counterclockwise 1/8 to 1/4 of a turn) or the metering diaphragm inside the carb has become brittle and is not opening the needle valve to allow enough gas to flow into the H (High speed ) fuel circuit to allow it to run. Don't confuse the L mixture screw with the Idle speed screw. The idle speed screw has a Philips head and the L speed mixture screw has a small unconventional head that a normal screwdriver does NOT fit.

A carburetor adjustment of the L screw on the bottom front of the carburetor (it is recessed and is nest to the H screw) may be needed. The L mixture screw is the one closest to the engine. There is a larger Philips head screw that goes against the throttle lever plate and adjusts IDLE SPEED. An adjustment to this raises or lowers the idle rate. Try it first, then the L screw next. The carb may also be due for a gasket and diaphragm kit to be installed (they ALL do at some point) as the ethanol-laced fuel hastens the demise of sensitive internal carb parts. You will need a special tool to turn the L or H screws as the heads are splined (not slotted or Phillips or Torx).

you have 2 options, return it or use a dremel tool and cut a slot in top of low speed jet screw and turn counterclockwise bout 1/4 turn, keep in mind if you do this it can't be returned, I have seen a lot of good poulans and a lot of bad poulans, flip a coin !

Weed eater will not run in high speed but will idle

Remove the air filter and look at the carburetor. There are 3 adjustment screws. The Philips-head screw adjusts the angle of the throttle lever and thus, the throttle speed at idle. Leave it alone. There are 2 adjusting screws side by side at the bottom side of the carburetor (air filter side). One is the L (Low speed mixture) screw and the one to the right of it is the H (High speed mixture screw). Try to get ahold of the L (it may have an unconventional head) with say an automotive type plastic sheathed wiring connector. A small one that fits 22 gauge wire orr 20 gauge may work. The screw head is only at most about 1/8" in diameter. Tap the wire connector down lightly onto the head of the L screw ( I suggest using one with a ring terminal on the end so you can grab it). Once you have the wire connector securely on the head of the screw, then turn the screw about 1/4 of a turn counterclockwise. This adjusts the L mixuture and also changes the mixture in the carb on the H side because when you run wide open, both the L and the H sides of the carb are contributing a fuel mixture to the main nozzle of the carb. Try that. For you learning pleasure please see this:

Weed eater will not run in high speed but will idle

Lack of fuel is my first thought. Check to be sure the trigger control is working at the carb. From there I would suspect plugged fuel line or plugged carb, (most likely contaminated fuel) either way I would suggest someone that knows about these. Hope this helps

String trimmer, fuel lines disintegrated, I need routing.

The Walbro has two connections on it for the fuel line. My Walbro has one connection on the side of the idle screw and main fuel adjusting screw. This connection hooks up to the suction side of the primer bulb. Usually the shorter stem. (You actually **** fuel through the carb instead of pushing it through.) On the other side of the carb is the other hook up. It draws fuel from the tank. This line will connect to the side of the tank that has the filter. The other side of the tank is your return and it hooks to the other connection on the primer bulb. Usually the longer stem.

Starts and idles but dies when i pull the throttle.

Either clogged or needs cleaning/ rebuild. ITS SIMPLE! ok If you have a Walbro WT series carb "without" a built on primer bulb here it is. First off if the fuel lines disintegrated you MUST disassemble it and clean it out. The MOST infintesimle speck of gas line trapped, can allow good prime and bad operation. OK? Don't be lazy on this. Just be delicate removing the flaps gasket and diaphram. ZAMA GND-12 Is the replacement Gasket and diaphram kit fot that carb. Use a cleaner, compressed air or blow good thru it. OK Now...Primer bulb, Carb, and Fuel tank, re connects: Smaller Diameter line comes from Gas tank (Connect filter screen to this in tank) to the short Straight brass carb connector. Primer bulb suction goes to the bent carb brass connector. If small line brings fuel "in" this other line sucks it back "Thru the primer bulb" and the blow side of the primer bulb sends it back to the fuel tank! So...Small Line brings fuel "TO/IN" carb thru short brass connect on carb. Other carb connect goes to bulb suction "IN", Then primer bulb "Pressure OUT" goes thru the larger tube "back to fuel tank". Trust me I know how frustrating a simple diagram is to find online fo this set up. And if you have a carb problem on top of the hook up uncertainty you got frustration. Not only was online help hard to find (Mfg...etc NFG at all!) My local repairshop in BBrook NJ could not tell me how!!! and thats no lie! Walbro has a "generic" carb diagram but no "hook up info" specifically. Poulan don't list it either. And these things routinly fall to pcs. all 3 of mine crumpled together on yr. 3 of use.

Poulan trimmer wont idle

Sounds like the carb needs adjusted. Unfortunately, it takes a special tool now to fit the adjustment screw(s). A shop should be able to do that for you.
