Question about Kenmore Washing Machines

Kenmore Series 90 washing machine, won't start cycle

Kenmore Series 90 washing machine, model # 110.26912691. It is about 12 years old. The rinse cycle and the spin cycle work with no problems. The problem I have is that the wash cycle will not fill the washing machine with water, nor will it it agitate. If I spin the control knob to rinse, it pours water in the tub and it will continue the cycle through the spin cycle and remove the water no problem.
The funny thing is that if I turn the dial to the last 2 minutes of the permanent press cycle, it will in fact fill the tub and agitate for only 2 minutes so I twirl it around again for another 2 minute cycle two more times so I can get the machine to wash for 3- 2 min. cycles and it continues through the rest of the rinse and spin cycles.

First, see the Sears Parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=110.26912691&pathTaken=partSearch

Next, see the Whirlpool / Kenmore Service manual for top load, direct drive washers:

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

I hate to say it but it sounds like a Timer problem.

I'd use the troubleshooting section of the Service Manual and the timer testing procedures to confirm the problem.

Note that there are two types of timers with different procedures to remove them.

Also see the following for how to release the console for access to the timer and other controls.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

It sounds like the transmission is done. Can't pinpoint what it is exactly, but I would start there.

I have a kenmore top load high efficiency washer. When i press start it acts like its going to start then it unlocks and won't wash.

My problem is similar to one posted top. My HE Kenmore washer stopped in the middle of the cycle. I repaired the latch lock, thinking that would solve my problem, but now it will start the cycle, and stall at the rinse setting. I have to physically set it to rinse and spin, and sometimes that doesn't even work. Washer will be two years old this August. I have NEVER had a problem with a Sears washer, and I am VERY disappointed in this one. My last two gave me twenty years of service without a repair. Maybe Sears needs to go back to making theirs in the USA.

Sounds like the timer has failed. It's a common problem.
